The good, the bad and the damm right lucky!
Well where do I start???
Go back to the weekend. We had some bad news in my household, and had to put our family dog to sleep after 16 years of her being in the family.
Obviously this was, and is very upsetting, so the last thing I should of done is opened anything to do with gambling.
Firstly I opened up my ladbrokes casino account which had about £80 in.
This disappeared into a variety of slots, mainly Thunderstruck and Cashapillar.
I then went to bet365. This account had about £12 in, which I transferred into the casino, but I was unable to get it to work so left it.
So instead of being £80 down and leaving it, I opened up my betfair account.
Now this is the account which holds the most of my float. I had/have quite a bit of money tied up, so the account balance was around £3k.
I started a bit on the slots losing a quick £50. I then decided to open up their roulette table.
Another quick £50 went, and now obviously feeling worse than before, I decided to have 2 big spins, before leaving. (Believe it or not, but I rarely gamble so a £50 stake is quite big for me ) The first £50 spin lost, so in haste I pressed the button that doubled my stake and spun the wheel.
Amazingly one of my numbers came in which netted me £290. This however was followed my a 'time-out' popup, so I closed the game, and re-opened it.
Imagine my surprise when my balance is lower than it should have been, about £290 lower.......
Yep, after loading up my account summary the spin was VOIDED
In frustration I turned off my computer, without shutting it down properly.
(I am bloody glad I did this, otherwise I could easily seen my betfair balance disappearing.)
After contacting betfair, they basically said tough, and gave me a £10 free bet as compensation.
So I finished about £300-£340 down.... Not a good day in general.
Obviously for someone who rarely gambles that hurt a bit, and with the dog situation, I stayed away from the computer for a while.
Well today, I went back to assess the full damage.
I placed a few horse multiples for this weeks offer, but stayed away from my account statement
Anyway, firstly ladbrokes. I found 25 free spins for that lord of the rings promo.
I managed to win £50 with these, so withdrew that.
Next betfair, the free tenner went on generator to take £10.20 out of it.
I then today went back to bet365. I found that when transferring £12 into my account, I had activated some ridiculously high WR bonus match, giving me £24.
I played live roulette, trying to work out how much I would have to wager. (I couldn't find any t&c's anywhere, and live chat were fairly useless).
Anyway, I managed to get the £24 upto about £120.
Finally finding out that I would have to wager another £1000, I decided to go the route of trying to hammer the slots.
After trying a few, I found The Hulk slot. This started out ok, and my balance went up to £200.
I then increased the spin to £1.50 per spin. The next 30 minutes saw my balance go up to the heights of £500 and the lows of £40.
I then found I could finally withdraw my balance! Yey!
With it standing at £301, I transferred into sports and placed another withdrawal.
So in summary, I had managed to turn a £300 and odd quid deficit into a small profit. (Getting the money back was the main thing!)
I was amazed, but have vowed never to play slots or any form of online gambling when feeling very upset, the subsequently very angry.
It was a mental few hours, and quite fun in contrast to what happened a few days earlier.
I still cant believe what happened with the voided betfair spin, but it cant be helped.
I though I would share this, mainly to get it off my chest, and share my experience.
Thanks all for reading,
Dan.
Edit: I hope this is in the right section, but feel free to move it if not

awwww.. So sorry to hear about your dog.. They break your heart and nothing can ever take that pain away... You just have to think about the happy times and how lucky they were to have a wonderful family to look after them and love them so much...
Glad you managed to turn around you're losses... I've been quite quilty of that recently over the last few months.. Something like that does flick a switch in your head, I'm sure, and clicking a button seems to help that if it wins, but yes, annoys the hell out of you when it doesn't..

I think it's a good idea not to gamble when you are
(a) tired
(b) drunk
(c) emotional
but I'm glad you managed to nullify your losses.
Really sorry to hear about your dog/best friend too. I was in the same position several years ago, and it was a very painful experience. I feel for you.
But remember, in Doggie Heaven, there's a bone mountain and you can't turn around without sniffing another dog's butt!
