A classic match up between fallen giants. How far the mighty have fallen is perhaps best demonstrated by the fact that Blackburn have won the Premier league, and Liverpool haven’t. A history of success is worth little if your purchasing approach has been scattergun.
Both could cast looks to their owners for a reason for their current plights. Venky’s (the Indian chicken magnates) arrived with a wave of transfer speculation linking them to some of the world’s greatest (fading) stars including Ronaldiniho and Beckham, then baulking at the free signing of Yakobu (and what a signing he may turn out to be). Liverpool went the other way, a long way the other way, over £100million has been given to King Kenny and the only question is whether he has managed to extract the worst value from the transfer market in history..............keep it clean, but feel free to add comments below the line.
If you’re unsure whether the signings Kenny made were up to challenging for league titles, think about what you’d have thought if Henderson and Adam had turned up at Blackburn in the closed season? The prices might have been high, but in terms of quality? I doubt most people would’ve batted and eyelid. And what might have happened if those two had gone to Blackburn, why they might be in mid-table, which is where Liverpool seem to be heading at great pace.
In terms of form, in 2012 Liverpool are only off the bottom of the points table because Wolves are even more woeful. Since winning the league cup (no small achievement given who was beaten along the way) the league form has been woeful with only a derby victory over Everton as a positive, and given Everton’s form at the time it could be considered an upset. Blackburn have been picking up a few points of late and normally run a tight ship at Ewood, although West Brom put that theory to the sword a couple of days ago. There’s value in the draw with BetVictor offering 5/2, if you fancy a Liverpool win then head to Boylesports for 23/20 or Blackburn 11/4 at Skybet. The value doesn’t appear to be with a Liverpool win, but you could extract some more on a correct score bet with Paddy Power who are offering to refund losing correct score and first / last scorer bets if Blackburn win.
When all is said and done Liverpool have been unlucky, ish, they’ve hit the woodwork 35 times this season, that small margin has cost them dearly and they’d be pushing for the league with slightly better luck or accuracy depending on your bent. With that in mind take Liverpool to win two nil at 9/1 with Paddy and hope it either comes in as that, or that Blackburn turn them over to get your cash back.
