So this is it, the all Spanish final that everyone has been hoping for. Not only the two biggest clubs in Spain but also Europe and the possibly even the World. Is this two of the greatest teams to ever grace football? Ronaldo Vs Messi... Oh wait a minute – this is the EUROPA League final.
Three weeks ago most people would have been expecting an all Spanish final in the Champions League, however this is not that. Take nothing away from Athletico Bilbao and Atletico Madrid, even though they have been over-shadowed by Barca and Madrid they have both played very good football to reach the final. They both have talismanic figures in the form of Llorente (Bilbao) and Falcao (A. Madrid) who have both been prolific this season. Falcao is currently the top scorer in this year’s competition with 10 goals, whereas Llorente is not far behind with an impressive 7 goals to his name. HERE you can see Llorente scoring the goal that sent Bilbao through against Sporting (as well as some very enthusiastic American commentary). Llorente is priced at 5/1 to score first with Betfred, whilst Falcao can be backed at 4/1 also with Betfred. Although these aren’t the best industry prices, Betfred are likely to offer Double Delight and Hat-Trick Heaven for this game which could be good value with the form these two players have been in (Check our Twitter page @TGToffers on the day to confirm this is running).
As for match odds A. Madrid are favourites and can be backed at a price of 2.5 at Paddy Power, Stan James and William Hill (2.52 at Betfair). It is hard to look past A. Madrid because although Bilbao have been very impressive this season, they have played the most games in Europe, have quite a small squad and don’t have a rotation policy as such. I think they will be a victim of their own success and fatigue will be their downfall. Also, A. Madrid have experience of a Europa League final, having beaten Fulham 2-1 in 2010. The odds to lift the trophy are a lot closer with A. Madrid priced at 1.91 with BetVictor (1.89 at Betfair) and Bilbao at 2s with Bet365 (2.1 at Betfair).
This game promises to be an exciting encounter with both clubs possessing arguably the most in form strikers in Europe. Hopefully they will both perform on the big stage and we will see plenty of goals!
