The time of singing along to the American national anthem is nearly upon us. It’s Super Bowl XLVIII!
When is Super Bowl XLVIII?
The Super Bowl will be played 2 February 2014 between AFC Champions the Broncos and NFC Champions the Seahawks.
If you’re not one of the lucky 70,000 with a ticket, you can catch it live on both Channel 4 and Sky Sports. Coverage starts at 22:30 on Channel 4, or 22:00 on Sky. The actual kick off is scheduled for 23:25.
What number does XLVIII translate to?
Good question, it’s Super Bowl 48.
What happened at Super Bowl XLVII?
The Baltimore Ravens beat the San Francisco 49ers 34-31 in what became known as the Blackout Bowl following a power outage.
Interestingly, before the power outage the Ravens lead 28-6, and were outscored 8-25 after the power came back on.
Who will win Super Bowl XLVIII?
We’re not a tipping site, we don’t really know who’ll win, so we’ll give you some facts about the teams instead.
Seattle finished the season 13–3, winning the NFC West division and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The team scored 417 points during the season, while giving up just 231
Denver finished the season 13–3 for the second straight year, winning the AFC West division and home-field advantage throughout the playoffs. The Broncos had the best offense in the NFL, leading the league in points scored (606, the highest total in NFL history) and yards gained (7,313)
The Broncos are the designated home team (it’s an annual rotation between AFC and NFC teams), and have elected to wear their orange jerseys with white pants while the Seahawks will wear their white jerseys with blue pants.
Not sure home advantage makes a difference? Well the ‘home’ team has only won 42.6 of the 47 Super Bowls to date, so maybe it’s a bad thing………or maybe it won’t make a difference.
Who will entertain us at half time?
Bruno Mars will try, the Red Hot Chilli Peppers might have more success.
No Janet Jackson ‘wardrobe malfunctions’ are expected, or actually desired.
Got any mind-blowing Super Bowl facts?
We borrowed them from the Super Bowl site, but maintain they are still mind-blowing.
Slightly lower on the mind-blowing stakes, more on the interesting but ultimately useless side, this will be the first Super Bowl to be played outdoors in a cold weather environment.
What are the odds on the Super Bowl?
Denver are the favourites at 5/6 on BetFair. The Seahawks can be backed at 11/10 at BWin.
On the spread, most sites have it as a 2 point handicap on Denver, but there are some that are offering -1 (YouWin) and -1.5 (BetWay, 32RedBet and BetDaq), with different corresponding odds.
Total points scoring is generally under or over 47, with 10/11 on the best available odds.
For first touchdown, Marshawn Lynch is the favourite, best priced at 6/1 with WillHill. After him it’s probably worth going for longer odds and with a double delight offer (where the odds get relatively closer), Eric Decker and Wes Welker could do the job.
Are there any advantage bets for the Super Bowl?
