Sorry I'm not great with with computers.
Someone else mentioned this on the MSE thread... they couldn't find that option either in step 1 either. All I can think is that you're not logged on to your PC as an administrator so the option isn't there maybe? Or perhaps you're using a different service pack from me perhaps?
You're definitely using Windows XP aren't you? Do you know if you have administrative privileges on that PC? You can check by:- Opening Windows Explorer (windows-key+e).
- Goto 'Control Panel'.
- In right hand pane double click 'User Accounts'.
In there it should show you all the user accounts on your PC, check under your user account to see what role you have (Administrator/Power User/Operator/User/etc). If you're not an administrator, try changing your role so you are (not sure you can do this though since you have to be an admin to do that kind of thing!).

I double-checked and I am the administrator.
Do you think ticking that privacy box I was talking about will do the trick?
Thanks.

really interesting post munk, i searched and couldnt find this file on mine, although i have accounts at 3 of those in the list. Often in terms and conditions of gaming sites you can see in the t & c only one user per address/cc/ip adress and computer. I understood how they can record ip addresses, wasn't sure how they could log which computer, so now i think this answers that question. I will be interested to find out by checking their website to see where they are registered, maybe registered in a place where there arent restrictions on sharing data.
It is interesting to see some people have found the these files others not, i wonder if using windows vista instead of xp makes a difference, or perhaps different security on your pc. Some gaming sites require you to download a program to be able to play, maybe this is how these files are then installed.
Anyone know?

No that's to stop people on your network from being able to access the folder.
Ok another idea, it might be because you have Windows XP Home edition? Apparently simple file sharing is always enabled on Home - you can only disable it on Windows XP Professional.
To do Step 2 above in Windows XP Home you need to boot up in Safe mode which maybe sound a bit scary but it's not too bad, you just press F8 whilst the machine is booting up and it takes you into a 'stripped down' version of Windows.
Once you've booted in safe mode, you should be able to follow the details in Step 2 above (hopefully!). Once you're done, just shut down as normal and you'll reboot back into 'normal' mode.
If you're not comfortable with all that though, there's another option where you can stop Flash from writing cookies to your hard drive. It's on the thread I linked to on the MSE forum - check out the last page of that thread, someone else posted about it in detail.

Yes it's odd that some have the files and others don't. The problem is that it's a black box, there's no instruction manual or official word on when exactly the reputation manager is triggered. For example on Sportingbet, the system is apparently only triggered when you actually make a deposit or withdraw and even then maybe only by certain payment methods.
The type of operating system you use doesn't matter though, if you use Flash then by default you're vulnerable. Security settings you apply to flash will stop them though like I mentioned above in this post ^^^.

The application that does the work is just Macromedia Flash Player - which most people have installed to watch stuff on youtube or iplayer or whatever and generally get more from their browsing. That's why Iovation have gone for it presumably, they know most of the population will be using Flash.
Who knows what kind of tricks go on when you download casino software

ROFL
After I typed that URL I read through the first few lines of the first article thinking 'I wonder how far he'll get before he closes this window'... my money was on ... well line one really.
I just can't believe you don't think WWW::Mechanize::Shell isn't a brilliant tool for browsing websites at a very low level?! (It's actually pretty cool and you could use it to grab data from bookie sites to compile a list of books/match up overrounds etc but probably not the best tool for the job)
