Hello Kris, goodluck with it, keep us posted with how you get on. I know two other people have just started as well (Ian and HappyGooner) so keep an eye on what they are up to it will probably be good for you to do too.
Have a plan and stick to it

Hi Guys,
I've just discovered this website and have decided to have a go at matched betting.
I have managed to build up a nice bankroll through internet poker over the past year and am ready to plough those profits into matched betting. However, I will be betting on outcomes I believe will happen so I will be under-laying on Betfair.
Is this a good strategy for someone who believes they have a decent source of tips? What are the dangers/pitfalls of this strategy?
Some other questions:
1. I've noticed that there is no 'how-to' on matched betting on this site. Am I to use the info on the MSE website to learn the intricacies of matched betting?
2. I already have a Neteller account in US dollars from my poker career. Is it necessary to also get a Moneybookers account in euros? (I'm Irish)
3. I already have a Betfair account but I've seen BetfairX mentioned in these forums. What's the difference between them? I think BetfairX has some kind of reward policy but how much betting would you have to do to get a kickback?
I think that's it for now but I'm sure to have many more questions.
Thanks in advance for any answers.

Welcome! Good site to discover!
Play it how you want. I was introduced to matched betting on MSE so I play the "safest" option. If you want to under lay then why not. dangers/pitfalls being your "decent source of tips" not actually being that decent and you make substantially less profit than you would have done matching it.

thegamblingtimes.com (sister site to TGU) has information on matched betting. The guides at MSE are very good, however if you've got common sense then they're overkill.

Always useful to have moneybookers account and there is no harm in doing so. Please sign up via the link on Thegamblingtimes.com
https://www.moneybookers.com/app/?rid=1863668 as it helps keep this site running. You can claim a fiver from there if you use the link.

I am sure Andy will be on this thread soon to explain the advantages of BetfairX!

just to say .... you might find problems going for the underlaying on what you think the result will be ... normally with matched betting you go for the closest odds to give the maximum profit ... going for things you think will happen wont always give the closest odds/profit ... something to be aware of (though im sure after you have been doing it a while you would have spotted that)

The information on BetfairX is on the Bookmaker review pages here:
The Gambling Times - Online Bookmaker Reviews - Viewing all bookmakers
The general idea is that you sign up via the BetfairX TGT affiliate link for a new Betfair account and then 10% of any commission you pay to Betfair is paid back to you from TGT each month for the first year. Feel free to contact Andy or me for more information if you need it - it's important to definitely contact us though if you decide to go for it because your sign up has to have tracked in TGT's affiliate pages otherwise no affiliate earnings will be paid and in turn we can't pay you.

Hi Munk,
Thanks for this reply. I was under the impression that BetfairX was only for people who bet in big volumes; is this not the case? I would welcome even €10 commission returned every month - better in my pocket than theirs. (EDIT - just saw in the link provided that I need to generate over 500 points a month for this)
I already have a Betfair account, so can I also have a BetfairX account? My Betfair account is in US dollars, should my BetfairX account be in Euros, as I will be concentrating (at least initially) on British/European bookies?
I will definitely PM you if I decide to go ahead with BFX.

Hi Yvonne and welcome.
I'm sure you will pick up plenty of tips on here. If there is anything you are at all unsure of there is a general questions thread if you can't find the answer on the site.
Have fun.
