My phone is so old I'm not even sure it's colour. Thinking of upgrading to something funky so I thought I'd bump this thread.

Nokia N97 looks good at first viewing: any views...?

    cheers

How much you looking to spend fella?

I just got the Blackberry Bold 9000 (not the newest one, which is JUST released the 9700) and I love it. Wifi to connect to your internet so you don't use the mobile internet (even though I'm an 'unlimited' data plan, T-mobile's fair useage condition is 1GB per month , so is 3 mobile, Orange is 500MB! and Vodafone is 3GB but they were the most expensive), 3G for FAST internet when out and about, push e-mail for all your e-mail accounts, qwerty keyboard that is easy to use, superb screen and useability, etc... it's fantastic as far as I'm concerned.

The best deal I found was T-mobile through a cashback site (buymobilephones.net) that included unlimited internet for £25 per month (after you include the cashback). It also has 700 mins and unlimited text, but I didn't really care about that. I would have been happier with 100 and 100 if they offered it for a cheaper price with the unlimited internet, but they didn't.

    Anyway, I like it

Ummm.... I'm just about to start a thread on MSE, which I hope will be fairly structured. I thought I'd do a first post which lists all the phones with comments in the following structure

For each phone, in alpha order, something like this

    PHONE: Nokia 5800 (Xpress Music)

    CARRIER: (EG Voda)

SITES WHICH WORK WELL: BD, BF, WH, ....

    SITES WHICH DON'T WORK:

    CONNECTION SPEED:

    OTHER ADVANTAGES:

Is it OK if I include some of the comments from here? I'll obviously include future models as they are 'reviewed' in the thread. Is this useful? Happy to post the URL when I set it up tonight....

    OTHER PROBLEMS:

PS Long(ish) time lurker here, you will now realise I am JM on 'the other' site.....

Just a thought, instead of an shelling out for an iphone, what about the Touch. Basically an iphone without the phone. Ok you need to be in a wireless area to use t'internet but dont most coffee shops have free wi-fi these days, just go stand outside one or maccy d's. I have used that when my phones battery has been a little low. £149 for the 8gb version.

Something else I might look into is this mi-fi business, portable wi-fi connection. I think you can get one for £12 a month with 1gb of downloads or £15 for 5gb. Used with a touch this would be grand for those train journeys, and matched betting anywhere you are. No need to shell out £40+ a month for a contract when £15 would do.

I actually have a netbook which will get a version of the net almost anywhere, but it's so slow unless the connection is good that I think a mobile is an essential add on. One of my questions is whether I should hedge my bets and get a non-voda mobile. Voda does seem to have the best coverage, but having a mob and netty on the same system is rather putting all my eggs in one ISP......

    jobbingmusician?

I am in the market for something too a mobile to back/lay bets on the run would be useful in the long term.

However im mostly in the market for a mobile broadband dongle right now. Something i can shove in my ageing laptop ideally £5-15 per month and 2+gb download usage a month would be perfect if anyone has any ideas. Also need to be wary some bookies dont like mobile broadband ip addresses.

Have a look a 3's mi-fi, basically it is a dongle but sits in your pocket. You can connect upto 5 devices at a time to it.

Just a thought - but why not post the original post here and then quote/link to it over on MSE? Thanks for asking though, hope you decide to post here first

My phone Nokia 6500 (slide) on Orange....

...works with William Hill, Blue Sq, Betdaq, bet365, Betfair (mobile app), Stan James (mobile app), Boylesports (mobile app), also used Ladylucks mobile casino.

Didn't work with recent betinternet offer, but I don't think many did.

Works well with m.flashscores.co.uk for checking footie scores. Up the Villa!

I imagine the newer model of this, the 6600 slide will work the same as above.

Been looking at a lot of phone reviews this week. I think the N97 is still shading it for me (or possibly the mini version). The Motorola Droid looks funky but isn't available in the UK.

    Still looking tho'
