"It's Great To Be Here" - ESPN arrives in the UK and ROI
Thought it might be worth pointing out that today (3rd August) sees ESPN take a major step into the UK and ROI broadcasting arena having picked up rights to the 46 live Premier League games which Setanta was originally due to air.
Of interest to users here may also be the live airings from MLS, MLB, NHL and AFL as well as games from European football leagues.
To top it all off, RAY STUBBS is at the footballing helm @ ESPN... could you want anything more? Kelly Dalgleish and Jon Champion are also there although that's somewhat less exciting unless you can merge Jon Champion's voice with Kelly Dalgleish's looks... and then we'd be talking *tiger*
These are the live Premier League games I can find they've the rights to so far:
Saturday 15: Everton v Arsenal (5.30pm)
Sunday 23: West Ham v Tottenham (1.30pm)
Monday 24: Liverpool v Aston Villa (8.00pm)
Saturday 29: Chelsea v Burnley (12.45pm).
Saturday 12: Tottenham v Manchester United (5.30pm)
Saturday 19: West Ham v Liverpool (5.30pm)
Saturday 26: Fulham v Arsenal (5.30pm)
Monday 28: Manchester City v West Ham (8.00pm).
Saturday 3: Manchester United v Sunderland (5.30pm)
Monday 5: Aston Villa v Manchester City (8.00pm)
Monday 19: Fulham v Hull (8.00pm)
Saturday 24: Chelsea v Blackburn (5.30pm)
Saturday 31: Manchester United v Blackburn (5.30pm).
Saturday 7: Wolves v Arsenal (5.30pm)
Monday 9: Liverpool v Birmingham (8.00pm)
Saturday 21: Manchester United v Everton (5.30pm)
Saturday 28: Aston Villa v Tottenham (5.30pm)
It's available via Virgin (529) and Sky (417) - £ info is on their website if you're at all interested.
They will also be showing SPL matches, although I think SKY have taken 1st pick on all the old firm games.
I hope Virgin will add it to their XL package in place of Setanta. Would seem to be the fairest thing to do.
No chance of that lol. It's £9 (ish) a month if you are a Sky subscriber and £12 for Virgin subscribers.

Well i have XL at Virgin, and got Satanta "free". Just pressed 529 and ESPN has started no problem - watching Man U Spurs (repeat obv) so looks like happy days.
Big thanks to the op - even posting the channel number

ESPN will have their work cut-out just convincing the average punter to part with £9 a month for just a handful of attractive games (like Setanta, and ITV sports before that).
I'm glad they are showing the German football though. I really enjoyed some of those games last year. I just hope they improve on the awful picture quality that Setanta had. I see they have a HD channel also, so hopefully the majority of games will be broadcast in HD (but even Sky don't broadcast Spanish football in HD yet).
they've also got the Serie A:
SPN has secured an exclusive TV rights deal to broadcast live Italian Serie A matches in the UK.
Under the deal agreed with Media Partners and Silva, ESPN will broadcast up to three live Serie A games per week for the 2009/10 season. Coverage will begin on August 22 when AC Milan take on Siena, followed by Serie A champions Inter Milan versus Bari on August 23.
All matches will be shown on the new ESPN channel, which was launched on Monday in standard and high definition on Sky and Virgin Media. The SD channel is also now available on Top Up TV and BT Vision.
ESPN EMEA vice president Jeroen Oerlemans said: "We're very pleased to be able to broadcast the Italian Serie A. As one of the best leagues in the world, the live coverage will sit nicely with our Barclays Premier League, Clydesdale Bank Premier League and Bundesliga matches, making the channel the number one stop for football fans around the UK in SD and HD."
Virgin are offering a free month on XL TV, you just need to upgrade and remember to cancel before 30 days. I had a letter through the post. Didnt realise I would get some live football out of it.
Yep. Happy Days! Just turned on and saw a few seconds of Spuds v Olympiacos before quickly switching it off.
