The "strange goings-on" thread
Because of something that happened earlier to me, I thought I would create a thread where we can note things that happen during our MBing/gambling/casino experiences which make us go "WTF?!"
I just tried placing a £50 bet with Hills and the bet went to a trader. Now, what usually happens when it goes to a trader? In my experience, it either gets rejected outright (which covers odds changing or them just not letting you do the bet), gets accepted outright (yay, we like this option) or they come back with "you can have 50p on this".
The betslip came back to me with an offer... had the odds changed? No. "Must be a lower stake!" I hear you cry (stop crying already). No. "So what happened?" I could either decline their offer or accept it - their offer was a £400 bet at the same odds!
If you have such a story to contribute, please number it "WTF #002" and so on. Together, we can make it to 100 WTFs and that would be bordering on the beautiful I'm sure you'll agree.
A few years ago now tried to place a bet at Bet365 once and it was rejected as my stake was too high, I was offered -£14.73 on it. Yes thats a MINUS amount. So what, I could lay the Horse to win then? I took a screenshot and asked them for a comment about it but they didnt reply.
Have a plan and stick to it
In the past I have been paid twice by various bookmakers/casinos in error. Each time I have been very pleased by this and fully intend to keep it but to justify it to myself I send them a polite E-mail notifying them of the mistake. I tell them that I would love to return the £s but due to "anti money laundering regualtions" and "the law of the internet" I first need to recieve a scanned copy of their Govt ID, Bank Card, and Utility Bill. Ha Ha I thought, two can play this game.
On one occasion much to my suprise someone who was obviously just John Smith in the accounts department had got up from his desk, walked over to the office scanner, taken a copy of his driving licence and sent it to me with a request to redeposit the funds. I had not expected that at all. I thought "Good on him for trying" though, and sent the £s back.
Out of the 5 or 6 times I have been overpaid, he was the only one to ever have the inititive to reply. I hope he got some kind of credit/promotion for it.
Have a plan and stick to it
one sunday afternoon whilst me and the little fella were discussing what to bake we decided upon chocolate chip cookies, feeling we needed a womens touch in the kitchen we asked the other half to come and help us... she moaned how she was too tired and couldnt be bothered
but we always get out own way and after having a flyaway football bounced off her head a few (dozen) times she got up stormed through to the kitchen and said......."fine ill help, but im not peeling the f***ing smarties"
WFT??? peeling smarties?
One to many hits to the head with a flyaway ball me thinks
whilst me and the little fella were discussing what to bake we decided upon chocolate chip cookies, feeling we needed a womens touch
a minor WTF, as I'm sure this has happened to everyone, however the first time it happened to me it was about 10 seconds from the off on a mid afternoon horse race.....
when laying at betfair, even though all the lay is matched, it sometimes states that the bet is partially unmatched, citing the figure unmatched as zero. i was only saved by the fact that the exchange was very briefly suspended as the stalls opened- i noticed while frantically trying to re-lay that the bet had already been taken! would've cost me hundreds.
From Moneybookers back in the day:
"I would like to confirm that after reviewing your account I granted No transaction limit and pro gambler status. Hopefully the change will make it easier, more pleasant and time consuming for you to use Moneybookers services."
More pleasant AND time consuming?
Value of SNRs received (legitimately!) on one Ladbrokes account between the end of November 2008 and middle of March 2009... £2963.50. I'm not sure whether I should be WTFing at Ladbrokes or myself.
After qualifying for a free poker tournament on William Hill, I downloaded the client and went to the lobby to register hours in advance of the game. The game time was listed as 7.30pm Saturday so I scrolled though the schedule and couldn't find it. I looked though all the other lists just to check and still couldn't find it. "Right, I'll go on live chat" I thought. I clicked to live chat and waited and waited... no reply. Ok, I'll try them later. A few hours later, I logged on and still couldn't find the game so went back on live chat. No reply again. I popped them an email to ask where the game was, they've always been quick to reply to me before. Anyway, I received their reply 17 hours after the game start time and probably 20 hours after I wrote.
We apologise for the delay in responding.
At least provide an excuse... technical problems is always a good one.
To register on the tournament, you must download our software at Poker - Play online poker - William Hill Online.
Think you'll find I told you I had done this in my email.
Now, you need to log-in to the software.
OK, now you're you're just ripping the piss.
The tournament name can be seen by clicking on the 'All Scheduled' Tournaments.
You're using the wrong tense... "it could have been seen" would be more fitting because the game was yesterday. Even then, the game couldn't have been seen because I was looking there across a number of hours - you know, like I said I had?
We hope we answered your query.
You did if I mistakenly asked you to provide the most delayed and useless response possible.
