zomg I just came on here by chance to post just now and saw burial as last post... superbe, will check that out next...
Just been on a bit of one just now after listening to the new Radiohead album King of Limbs.... anyway heard an interview with Thom Yorke on Gilles show the other week and he was on about how he was working with the 'human drum machine' Clive Deamer so I took the time to have alook around and see what there was about him...
Original time I came across him I think was seeing Roni Size live in London back in 98 or so, I think he was playing at Kings Cross (can't remember the name of the club now), but it was amazing and I remember htinking he was quite impressive to say the least... if you listen to Brown Paper Bag by Roni Size, basically this guy played the whole thing LIVE on a single drumkit and didn't skip a beat:
That ^ video is a bit of a letdown in a way because the audio track from the album has a lot more texture to it, kind of sounds like a radio edit the video version... hey ho anyway..
But yeah so checking out Clive Deamer on Youtube is quite interesting, he's done some varied stuff... I suppose this is a bit niche, I quite like drums and my brother plays drums, I play drums a little bit and am interested in it, so this just blew me away (anyone who doesn't like drums or who hasn't played a drum kit themselves will probably think it's just ... bleh..,. hehe):
but yeah that is kind of awesome, if you watch it through, about half way through it seems like it's not really him playing at all and it's just an overdub or something, music playing on top (edit: actually atching it again it looks like the sound and video might be out of synch a bit!), but fairly sure it is just 'live' with him doing the business.... top class!
Loved that track - my sis told me to check out jamie woon's album many months ago and never got round to it - will do now! Remided me of Burial which is no bad thing:
Dude yeah I love that, reminds me of the breezeblock / mary anne hobbs ... did you check the last show out she did on radio 1? I bet you did but worth checking out if you didn't, had an exclusive mix with Burial and Kode9:
I have to say I'm only 2 mins into this tune and I'm not as amazed by it as I had hoped I would be... for me the original Paradise Circus is abolutely heaven... if you haven't heard it check it out:
Ahhh that's much better ...... Played this on a loop literally about 200 times after I'd first heard it, it's the only track that stands out for me on that album which is unfortunate given that I actually think that whole album was pretty good (though nothing on a par with protection and mezzanine let alone blue lines ). It's a very subtle track, and kind of only 'kicks in' around 2mins in, and even then you wouldn't say it kicks in really but the dubby bassline is just lovely....
