Starting out
Hi there,
I have heard a bit about Matched Betting, the main culprit was MSE, I read about it and didn't try hard enough to get my head round it.
I was talking to a friend at work and we got on to the subject of betting an he explained MB'ing and talked me through the set up, Moneybookers, Betfair etc...
I got some cashback from Quidco for changing our gas and electric and thought I'd get started and use it as a start up float, done Unibet, Paddy Power, Bet24 the obligatory Betfair and Coral.
I'm looking forward to the World Cup for some offers and good matches but I must admit I found SNR odds of above 6 or 7 hard to come by, there are sites that compare odds for football matches but I haven't come across any for other sports (horse racing, tennis etc...) are there any?
Just having a very quick glance at some threads, people have made a fair few £££££'s out of it, good luck to them, myself, well a bit extra cash won't go amiss and hopefuly I'll have a bit of fun in the process.
Any advice, tips or general conversation would be most welcome and I'll post about my experiences with each bookie as I go along.
Keep it steady. :

one site is oddschecker.com for odds comparisons

Yes, thanks for that, something like bet72's oddsmatcher or mbassist's bookie search would be ideal thiugh probably not practical for the horses or darts and tennis etc....

Hi meerkat welcome to the site.
There are quite a few different odds comparison sites around and also arb services that you pay for to provide 'surebets' or arbs that will guarantee you a profit no matter what the outcome. Most of these for obvious reasons are very expensive, but there are a few around that offer free services.
Have a look here for odds comparison sites:
The Gambling Times - Threads Tagged with odds comparison
some of the free 'surebet' / arb services are listed on here:
http://www.thegamblingtimes.com/boar...-websites.html
For the longer odds the quickest way of finding a match at long odds is to look at horse racing if they offer it at the book you're playing at (mostly UK bookies). If you use:
http://oddscomparison.onlinebettinga.../horse-racing/
you can quickly spot the arbs at the book you're looking at. Also if you click on the price on the BB site it will open up a betting slip for you so you can get the bet on quickly before the arb disappears. If the book you're playing at does do horses but isn't listed on the BB site, it's best to have the two windows open side by side and just compare each price for each race until you find something.
There are some gotchas with horse racing (namely rule 4 deductions), and I hesitate to say 'it doesn't often affect you though' (because sods law if I say that the first race you bet on you'll get hit by a rule 4 deduction), but in my experience I've only come across rule 4 issues in maybe a dozen or so out of 1000s of races and have only been negatively affected perhaps once or twice (and even then quite negligibly). But having said that there are others on here I know that have been hit by it so it's something to be aware of but don't let it put you off I would say.

If you want to stick to Soccer try looking in the Correct Score and HT/FT markets for lots of odds choices around 10s

You would be best off looking yourself. Lots of reasons. Trust me the end result is look yourself will be best for you. Take whatever is closest after a max ten mins of looking. Turnover is King.

Thats the key really, make money and have fun. Make sure you are always doing both and you cant go far wrong.

Im not sure what you read at MSE but I know they have a "guide" and when I looked at it (prob over a year ago now it might be better now) I would not agree with everything that is in it.
Some people bet using Spreadsheets to calculate the amounts to lay and make it the same on either result. I think that is encouraged at MSE. I have never, ever, understood why you would do that? Nobody has ever given me a reason either. If you currently bet using a Spreadsheet to work things out ditch it as soon as possible. Use your head, close your eyes, imagine every outcome, think where you are winning, how much, what you have to do next because of that, then put in a lay amount where you are always happy (tip = underlay).
There is no right/wrong though each to their own. But if we thought that it would be a good idea to bet like that we would have knocked up our own SSheets to do that. We dont have them. Enough said.
Have you read Vinnies diary? A bit out of date now but quite inspiring and shows what can be done from scratch. Do you play Casinos at all? Risk = Rewards, they are risky but there is £s to be made there too, have a look at the website Beating Bonuses - Online Casino Bonuses and Casino Games to find out more.
Goodluck with it all.

Re higher odds for SNRs, if you do want to stick to football, you can use MB Assist and specify that you only want to see odds above a certain amount.
Definitely worth learning how to matched bet on horses though, as not only can you generally get better matches, you also sometimes get additional unexpected profits from a BOG (best odds guaranteed) or a favourable Rule 4. I would recommend not backing and laying too close to the start of the race though, at least to begin with - you don't have to, to get good matches.
Re Andy's points about spreadsheets, i tend to use mine all the time, although it's not the most important item i use - i always have a pen and paper handy and a calculator. I think the key thing is to use the SS as a guide, but to understand exactly what you are doing and why, and that way if something goes wrong, there is much more chance of knowing what to do to put it right. IMO the grumblebus SS is excellent, as not only will it do all the complex 3+ way dutches (you will need a SS for those) but also straight forward 2 way dutches, but allows you to "play around" with the amounts, so you can see the different profits/losses for each outcome.
GIOL at MSE is only allowed (by MSE) to discuss offers that don't lose you money (if done correctly) and hence the emphasis there does tend to be more on making equal profits, regardless of outcome. Once you've been doing this for a while, you kinda get you own ideas/plans when it comes to weighting bets - overlaying/underlaying - have a search for either of those terms (mainly underlaying) and you will find threads with peoples views.

I am a relative newcomer myself, but am fortunate enough to have a matched betting buddy, although I am feeling pretty confident now. The only blip I had was when I forgot to put a promotion code in at one bookmakers and they refused to add the bonus retrospectively.
With the football season going quiet befroe the world cup I have looked more and more at the horses, especially where there are no non-runners (Rule 4 goes straight over my head). I do look at oddschecker.com which often highlights if 'my' bookmaker has a horse at favourable odds. Loitering at Betfair just after one race has finished (ie half an hour before the next) on any given racecourse, you can often react before the bookie to a sudden dip in odds on a certain horse. Doing that too close to the off is not good for the blood pressure as the odds start to move wildly.

Thank you for all your replies,
At the moment, using the spreadsheet is my best option as I need to get more into MB'ing before I do calculations myself, but, I'm sure it will come.
Well, I'm off to find another bookie, I'll report back with my findings.
Keep it steady.

Next bookie

Just placed a bonus bet at Jaxx, waiting for tonights game, Italy vs Mexico correct score. 7 at Jaxx and 7.4 at Betfair, not great but best I could find.
Keep it steady.

Jaxx are a good bookie, although their odds (certainly on football) are quite tight. They are on MB Assist, but 9/10 they have already cut at Jaxx, b4 you can get any money on.
One thing Jaxx do is give you points - you get so many a month for doing nothing, and so many a month for placing bets - to get the maximum number of points, you need to place bets totalling £75 a month.
333 points = £1, so if you max out, you can make £4 - £5 a month, for not a lot of effort - just have to keep an eye out for a no loss bet each month.
