Cue lots of outraged comments about the ills of gambling (there's already one likening free bets to a free hit of heroin!)

Interesting that person has got lots of affiliate links into that post, surprised they can get away with that on the Guardian's website.

So who was the anonymous author that sold this bit of freelance journalism to the Gruniad?

liked this bit; 'Researching this article has been more lucrative than writing it'.

Yes I don't believe it either, bookmakers never lose do they?!

See there are a stack of comments now, majority of which are probably APers castigating the Guardian for printing an article about gambling hehe. See a few familiar names there as well in the comments...

LOL, i had no idea that so many people believed what i wrote on moneysaving expert. I enjoy being idolized and looked upon as a god by the hard up and needy, the majority of it is absolute rubbish.

Should also mention that moneysavingexpert will have killed matched betting within a year in the same way that casino bagging was killed by other forums

To be honest we need to thank our lucky stars that matched betting initially looks confusing to people, or we would have been dead in the water a long long time ago.

What an idiot! That's going to encourage loads of new/existing bookies to start giving offers isn't it! It's almost akin to a rogue magician giving away magic circle secrets (alright thats a bit far fetched but hopefully you get my point) - just wait until the rest of the media get hold of this and the masses start to dive in when they lose their jobs etc. It's not unlike the using of 6/9/12 month offers on credit cards - was doing this back in early 2000 long before Martin Lewis came along and called it stoozing...
