vuvuzela horns ruining the world cup

    Seriously.

It's not just that it's annoying, it's that it means you can't hear the crowd cheers, gasps etc at all. Completely kills the atmosphere, you may as well watch with the sound off.

Dreadful, I truly hope someone talks to the African organisers & bans these f*cking things. I've watched two games now & it's more than enough for me.

According to the Wiki page on them, they are associated with hearing loss and the Mirror warned of permanent damage within 15 minutes due to them creating a noise 7db louder than a rock concert. I assume they are still quieter than most people listen to their Ipods at.

FIFA wanted to ban the 3 foot plastic horn for this WC, not on the grounds that the atmosphere and the ooohs and aaarghs couldn't be heard but because hooligans could use them as weapons... I assume to hit people with rather than to blow a noise into someone's ear.

On one hand I like that there's something going on visually/aurally that wouldn't be going on in English stadiums, but on the other hand it is so dominating that the the exact things we're used to hearing just aren't being heard.

If that is in fact true musicbox then it is shocking. Especially since there is a lot of children there. I almost get sick just listening to it on the tv.. Can you imagine what it is like to actually be there. It is probably good fun for the people blowing those horns but maybe it isn't a whole lot of fun for the people who actually have spent thousands going down there to enjoy the game.

It was good fun for the first few minutes of the SA game but it quickly got very boring. I am surprised FIFA let this go on, especially given the fact that there is a potential health risk given that they constantly blow those horns. I don't mind some blows here and there but what they are doing is causing absolute constant noise, so far on every match.

I get that they are proud to host the FIFA but I don't think they are making a lot of friends doing what they do. For the two matches today it is obvious that some people are not even respecting the national anthems.

Can't wait for Wimbledon to start.

It is true. SA law requires earplugs if you work in 85 decibels or louder. A chainsaw is 100. These monstrous things are coming in at 130....

The guy being frisked at about 30 seconds is unbelievable ..I can't see them being able to ban them ..With this kind of dedication to the job.

You should be happy coz British Petrol is not sponsoring the English National Squad by giving away "cheap" green vuvuzelas away for 1 quid on all their petrol stations across the UK.

I wish Galp Energia didn't had did it in here, now i can't sleep properly on the weekend coz some neighbour kid is bloing his orange vuvuzela at early mornig hours...

FIFA could have had these banned from the grounds ages ago as the racket from these childish horns apparently caused more complaints from viewers than ever at the last African nations cup. You might as well be sitting in a massive traffic jam with people tooting their horns non stop. A total joke, its not cultural or even anything to do with sport, just a lame excuse to say 'look at me' being as irritating as possible.

Yes ban these instruments of mental torture. They are ruining the WC!

I am also suspicious of the Jubilani ball. Looks more like a Baywatch ball from what I've seen so far. When players of the ability of Messi and Lampard are ballooning freekicks ten yards over the bar you have to question this ball. I've yet to see anyone get it up and down over the wall.

Initially they were ruining it for me. I have got used to them now. I agree they should still be banned though it is just annoying isnt it, I am all in favour of singing/chanting and noise at a game. But this is just noise how does it encourage your team at all? Ban them!
Have a plan and stick to it

They was a moment in last night's game where Rooney had a cracking shot from nothing and you just knew the crowd were chanting "Roo-ney, Roo-ney" and all you could hear was the a giant swarm of bees being swallowed up by a massive [ame="http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B00008Z9XZ/ref=s9_simh_gw_p79_i1?pf_rd_m=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&pf_rd_s=center-1&pf_rd_r=1HVZK2FNEHB1RQZ8KAD5&pf_rd_t=101&pf_rd_p=467198433&pf_rd_i=468294"]Henry the Hoover[/ame]!
