I'm pretty sure they ask for statements from all accounts - so if you get caught out you're in the brown stuff. I don't think that MB profits should count against housing benefit, anyway, so why take the risk?

My sister in law does this. I don't know the details obviously, but from what she has said, they will initially give volunteers the "admin" type jobs - answering phones, keeping diaries etc, but you can do aspects of their internal "training" and in due course become "qualified" as a case-worker, at which point you start to see general clients. They then have various more specialist areas of advice that you can train in. Not sure whether +EV betting is one of them thou'!
As a volunteer you can pretty much decide for yourself how much time to give to it. I think she did 3 days a week but I'm sure they had volunteers who did only one day a week. I dare say you can take Cheltenham off.

My bank account shows all my money back from bookies as "Refund from...", which also helps to indicate it's not actually "income" from anyone, it's a refund of purchases already made - which purchases will also show up in your statement. I would just tell them you like to gamble - they must run into this with genuine punters! Don't explain you always make a profit from it. Just say you gamble, sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
If it were me, I'd also be inclined not to explain TOO much about it to start with. I'd just bring in/send in the papers with a note that the various items listed "Refund from" are monies from your bookies, because you like to gamble online sometimes ("sometimes you win, sometimes you lose"). Hopefully that will be the end of it. If they do ask questions, that's the time I would explain a bit more.
Just my two cents. Hope things go well for you.

Hi Fella, didn't check back on this thread so have just seen your post. Ugifer is basically bang on the money. You apply, get interviewed, and work for a few weeks on reception before receiving training as a diagnostic interviewer. As a diagnostic interviewer you'll assess the needs of each client and pass the info on to a trained adviser or specialist. After a while doing this you can train to become a full adviser.
I'd strongly recommend it if you're thinking of volunteering. Aside from the fact it looks excellent on a CV (the reason why I started), it's extremely rewarding and the work couldn't be more diverse. Plus, they only ask you for a couple of afternoons a week.
Anyway, sorry to hijack your thread Mullet, hope you get things sorted.
