Yes Melissa something like that.

Maybe Truecrypt would help, but I did that too - encrypted the FULL usb stick as a drive, and then almost got all the data lost, due to some weird error, it simply damaged itself (didnt recognize my password), due to some header volume error...
I would encrypt only a container if I would need to use USB stick as a backup or data carrier..

I was recommended to get Dane Elec, rog, which is supposed to be a good brand apparently, they all seem to be similar price anyway, use truecrypt to create an encrypted container on the stick for all your stuff. For some reason some people seem to suggest that encrypting the whole stick can cause problems later on. I was only able to create a maximum size container of under 4gb unfortunately, something to do with FAT32 file system or something, but that should be enough for my stuff.

Personally I'd always buy a stick that either came with encryption or I'd add encryption.
Outer toughness is an issue to consider if you'll be taking it out & about (can get tough waterproof ones etc).
A proper keyring attachment likewise (not some stupid dangley piece of thread).
Finally, although it sounds ridiculous, I like USB sticks to be as thin as poss as it's often impossible to get two USB devices plugged in next to each other on a lappy if either one isn't slim.

Have a look at:
The Gambling Times - Threads Tagged with security
there's a few mentions of usb sticks around (if you search for 'ironkey' or 'corsair' on the forum there's some good info in that thread). Actually it's mentioned in this thread: http://www.thegamblingtimes.com/boar...hlight=corsair
Also check out my security guide if you didn't already: http://www.thegamblingtimes.com/boar...ly-online.html
I have a Corsair Survivor USB stick which does the job well. Melissa mentioned Truecrypt above - I use Truecrypt to encrypt a backup file/container with a strong password on the USB stick and then use that to store all my important backup stuff to (Keepass password db, MS Money files and a copy of my documents folder from Windows).

I bought a Maxell 8MB and when I tried it I only got 1MB.
After alot of googling I found an app that sorted it out.
But how rubbish that it's default state was actually wrong!!
