Paddy Power on phone-in on RTE
lol @ asking if they have handwriting recognition software to recognize punters. But then again I don't know that face recognition software to recognize punters from CCTV is a million miles off, easy enough to imagine them installing a system that takes a shot of the user as they stand at the counter and then have it flagged up on the console in front of the teller if they're recognized as an existing customer along with their limits or when the teller contacts the traders to find out how much they can take etc etc.
Thanks for the link Fella/Eoin.
I too smiled at the handwriting analysis comment (about 18 minutes into the mp3) and the fact he was worried about the use of the data protection act... shortly before he revealed his name on radio?
As he revealed in his original comment, he was able to bet once or twice before getting monitored in 2nd shop so if they knew who he was then he wouldn't have got one bet on. His one or two bets probably raised suspicion and a quick descriptive check with other shops could likely identify him... especially as he didn't mention he was conducting the betting dressed as Big Bird.
BTW, it would be funny if the value lines we find at bookmakers didn't come about from any incompetence in their 'normal' setup but rather that they were watching shop CCTV rather than their lines!
