£2.9m Benefits Scam - Roma rights campaigner jailed
Obviously this makes them all thieves, right? I mean come on, does this place need "gyppo bashing" threads which you can find all over the net?
I know Fella quite well, and I would like to say that he is not opinionated in any way, he is just spreading interesting new stories and it is up to the reader to interperet them in anyway they see fit.

I work very hard and pay my taxes, in my opinion this has less to do with "gypo bashing" and more to do with raising public awareness to these issues.
I thought the original title of this thread was much more succinct!
Thieving : Claiming benefits to which they were not legally entitled
Gyppos : Romany gypsies
This of course does not imply that all Roma are thieves, or conversely that all thieves are Roma, but relates purely to the actions and individuals involved in this specific news story. To assume otherwise is both foolish and offensive.
Don't hate the player, hate the game!
Public awareness would be better served if it knew benefit fraud is absolutely dwarfed by tax evasion and tax avoidance by the super-rich and giant corporate and financial multinationals. But then that doesn't make good headlines for super-rich tax-evading newspaper proprietors so it's never given the same coverage in the media. Far easier to find a softer target which the public can scapegoat for our financial mess, while the real protagonists in all of this carry on business-as-usual wile we're busy blaming "gyppos" and "benefit scroungers".

That's why it's impossible to nail them down & force them to pay tax in any practical way - there are plenty of other countries who would welcome them with open arms. And the same goes for companies; create a tax environment they consider too draconian & they simply relocate, taking their jobs with them & leaving unemployment behind and the country in a worse state.
Politicians are well aware of this. It's a disingenous soundbite designed to get cheap applause when they talk about how they're going to go after this behaviour.
Benefits on the other hand, cost a fortune. Since some benefits go to entirely deserving people & some go to people who don't deserve a sou, it's entirely reasonable for most people to be p*ssed off at those who choose to live off handouts. And lets not mince words, some people do choose to live off benefits. I could introduce you to a lot of them!
Speaking as someone who hasn't worked for 18 months & hasn't claimed a penny (even though they could) I'm not simply speaking from self-interest, unlike many people who voice their opinion on this topic. I would deliver leaflets (or other far "worse" jobs) long before I'd queue up for the dole or whatever it's called nowadays. IMO benefits should be for the sick or the old. Anyone young & healthy should work or starve. Given that choice, not many would choose to starve.
I would echo Fella's comments, the super rich aren't taking anything out of the system - it's just good business to be as efficient as possible in the way you pay your taxes, I know plenty of self employed people who legally work the system to their advantage.

Again, as Fella has pointed out there are those who choose benefits (either working the system legally or fraud) as a "career" choice. That's not my opinion (though I do have an opinion on the issue) it is fact. Without a shadow of a doubt a benefits system needs to be in place to help people who really need it, and I will pay my taxes with glee every day of the week if it helps people in truly unfortunate circumstances, but the current benefits system is open to abuse and it certainly does get abused.
I'm not using benefits claimants as a scapegoat, it really is a legitimate issue. It's not the only issue we have in this country of course, only this morning I heard on the Radio that a Tea production company who have factories in the UK received a 12 million EU Grant, and are using that money to relocate their factory in a European country to cut production costs, meaning more job losses in the UK
However, as Fella points out is is reasonable to be annoyed at people who choose to live off handouts.
I actually think Fella's first comment in this thread just say's it all..........

Exactly, and this is that I think is absolutely taking the p*ss when our health service is on it's knees, many of our pensioners are forced to live in poverty, and our sick don't get the care they need and deserve. I want to see the vulnerable looked after, instead, what I see is layabouts on their way to the pub sporting a tan having just been on a holiday all funded by the taxpayer.

Madness I tell ya.... madness......
If there is tax dodging going on that is of an illegal nature it should be punished without a doubt, however i really don't mind the rich using an accountant to pay less tax, i sure as hell don't want them moving away from these shores, i would like them to give me a place to work instead.
I am truly sick to death of bus travel after just 2 months the amount of waster scum aboard is beyond belief, it is time they all had a massive kick up the ass, a return to some stricter moral beliefs is of order. I personally see nothing wrong with the condem policies set out although I'm sure the implementation will be poorly done and probably too harsh for some vulnerable groups.
As someone who has spent half his life with health problems already, count me as being one of those very angry at people who abuse the system they make it worse for people like me who actually need it and to top it all its exactly this group of vulnerable people who often cannot fight for what they need and deserve, so many just don't bother claiming or appealing incorrect decisions because they do not have the energy to do so.
Its time we put a stop to it, its time we all stood up for people who work hard, its time to we stood up for those who are vulnerable and its time we show the growing legions of lazy scrounging scum that they better start doing their bit too otherwise there will be severe consequences for them.
As for this roma lot deport every single one of them forget prison deport them they came here to better their lives by working and they failed in that promise and instead lied and cheated the system, they should have no right to remain here they a leeches and always will be.
