Pinnacle ('John T', Trader) Interview - March 2011 - Discussion Thread
Welcome to the discussion thread for the recently published interview with 'John T', Pinnacle Sports trader.
This interview was sent exclusively to Premium Members via email on Sunday 20th March 2011 - if you didn't receive it for some reason then contact me (munk) and I'll get it sorted out (check your spam folder first though in case it's got caught up there).
Big thanks to 'John T' for the interview!

Thanks for this TGT I was looking forward to this one. It was me who asked the question;
So it will be interesting to see what developments come later this year, although due to the amount of time Pinnacle spend offline at crucial times i'd rather them fix that than develop new fangled stuff...
Sometimes markets go off-line temporarily and come back online with new pricing. During the off-line time, players have no reference point to see where the line was. Have you considered an Asian website approach which just leaves the old line visible but which refreshes with new odds soon after?
Yes, this is also something that is being developed.
Usually I know which way the market is going when a Pinny's line goes offline, but I was kind of curious to find out what is happening behind the scenes at this point, so if ther isd any chance of any follow up to that question that would be great.
Do Pinnacle use the same cenral odds feed as the asians to set their prices?
All in all though that is a really cracking interview cheers.
One of the comments in the interview was about where you go to place a bet, the odds change and you have to go back to the sportspage again to re-place the bet at the new odds. (By which time they often change again!)
Last night i went through to the betting page and it said 'odds have changed, do you want to accept the new odds' (or something like that).
Whoo. Nice one Pinnacle. Thanks
Yeah, that is actually one to watch out for as I was nearly caught out by that the other day when the movement went against me.

Indeed! My bet went from +210 to +188. ouch. Luckly I had not placed the bonus bet (-220).
I could swear they introduced that a few months ago though and then stopped doing it for some reason about a month ago? I'm sure I've seen it before about 3 months back, they started doing somethign where if the odds had changed they'd have a cross through the old odds and then have the new odds there instead and ask if you still wanted to place the bet? Maybe I dreamt it though!

Ideal situation for me would be for Pinny to move to using the exact same interface as 12bet. I think 12bet and similar asian sites (SBO) have a fantastic system:
Re the handicap lines on pinny which is mentioned above ^, I think it's madness for PInny to have so many fantastic handicap lines but then hide them all away in drop down lists! Makes searching/scanning the odds very difficult and if anything actually increases the bandwidth by having all that extra drop down list structure. Would be much easier/better I think to just have all handicaps listed directly on the page and not hidden in drop down lists.
- Double line asian view odds layout allows you to see ALL odds for a given date on one page so you can quickly search for what you're after rather than having to go through the ridiculously complicated league 'tree' structure on Pinny
- Handicap lines are displayed all in one single view (rather than having to drill down through drop down lists to find the handicap you're after like on Pinny)
- Superior betslip functionality:
- auto refresh in the betslip - so prices for selections in your betslip are updated every 10 seconds which is fantastic
- betslip next to the odds view so you can continue watching other prices without forgetting what line/price you wanted to watch in the betslip
One other thing I'd like to see improved is the to risk/to win functionality of the betsilp. That feature is not available on Pinny (afaik?) if you choose to use decimal odds which is a shame. I think my ideal scenario would be to have the option to set a default 'to risk/to win' setting my my profile, but then also have a toggle at the top of the page (like on the US odds view) where you can override the default 'to risk/to win' setting.
But generally if I only had to take one bookmaker with me to a desert island, it would be Pinnacle.
I asked them about this a little while ago after I saw something funny in the news ticker... something like "For our Asian view customers outright odds can be found by clicking xyblabla"...

Fo' real?? I am not UK but certainly not Asian either. The times when I am auto-redirected to eu.12bet.com and have to click asian view, it warns me that I am now betting with 12bet Cagayan (Philippines) and not Isle of Man. I would assume there is some kind of tax thing or weird financial rules going on here that they want you to bet with Isle of Man. But it cannot be that hard to let the client choose which platform no matter what jurisdiction they bet at. 1bet or whatever does it....? Not that it really matters when there are so many other places with same odds.
