Of course.
Betfair doing some good in providing the audit trail. Lots of them previously got away with it for just stopping them for the bookmakers.

A couple of years ago I had a few races where Sporting Index (SPIN) were way out of line. The horses were favourites and SPIN had them priced as though they were alsorans. Things like- Spreadex would have a horse at 28-31 on the index market, and the same horse would be 15-18 at SPIN. So you would buy for 18 at SPIN and sell for 28 at Spreadex. The horse would be favouite at Betfair, so you knew that SPIN were out of line.
It seemed to be too good to be true at first, getting these 10 point + arbs, and I was a bit worried of being palped- but I needn't have worried.
The horses always lost so you would be paid out from Spreadex and lose at SPIN. The common factor was that these horses always ran at Lingfield and always had K Fallon as their jockey.
In hinsight, I should have just sold these horses at Spreadex as they were always going to lose. My theory was that Fallon was being paid by SPIN to throw the races. SPIN were offering, what appeared to be massive value odds, but in reality the horse had no chance. I'm not complaining- I made a fortune and Fallon is my favourite sportsman of all time!

Would a company as big as SPIN really do something like that though? I mean how much could they have made for risk of their business closing?
Very interesting

I'm not saying there was anything untoward. But, just putting everything together, it all seemed a bit coincidental. It happened for a few weeks, to the point that all my betting activities were centred around when Fallon was riding at Lingfield. I wouldn't mind stumbling upon some more sporting dodginess (or events that I perceive to be dodgy- I'm sure that Fallon is squeaky clean (seems such a nice chap). If you can ride "the wave of dodginess" then it can be quite profitable. Only thing is- if you went looking for dodginess you probably wouldn't find it, I think its something that you find by chance.

Full report when you have a lot of spare time:
British Horseracing Authority Press Office - Result and Reasons of Disciplinary Panel regarding Sines, Crickmore, Doe, Fairley, Quinn, Milczarek, Fitzsimons et al.
There was a piece in the racing post today about the spoof bets (hoping the bookmakers would cut and they eventually get better prices on the lay) - this is mentioned in point 74.
Paddy Power were trying to defend themselves by saying, 'sometimes people ask for large bets and we offer to take them, but then the punters they change their minds or run out of the shops!
