Ascot races 6/8/11 - BEWARE!
Anyone arbing Ascot races on Saturday 6th August 2011, be aware there is potential for serious confusion, and may be carnage, on almost all races.
Each race has 10 runners and 2 Reserves. The bookie rules around Reserves are very unclear but it looks as if most bookies have priced up the Reserves. If those Reserves won't run, you might see a Rule 4 reduction at the bookie, but not at Betfair.
There is a potential upside to it at Lads and WH because if there's a NR and a Reserve comes in after you bet, they are applying a Rule 4 and settling without the Reserve (if the Reserve wins, they pay it, but if you bet on the 2nd, they will pay that as a winner, too).
Personally, I will stay clear of all Ascot races today at bookies other than Lads and WH.
Cheers for the info - I have unfortunately already put one on at Bet365. On the 2.00 both reserves on B365 are above 10 - that usually means that rule 4 won't be put into play if they don't run doesn't it?
Yes, on B365 you should be ok with prices over 10, but many others will charge R4s up to 15.
But keep in mind that R4 deductions are generally based on the price at time of withdrawal, and it isn't unheard of that you see a steamer becoming an NR. I.e. you have no control over the reductions.
Good luck with your bets, hopefully will be all ok.
Cheers, it is on one of the 4/1 offers so there is some margin for change without affecting profits too much - as long as it doesn't reduce to below 5.0 that is...

£100 refund if your horse comes 2nd to the fav.
Mine won £100 @ 6.2 laid @ 6 but with a 12% reduction for a none runner so I was only paid out £558 not £620
Betdaq did not make a reduction because "Kindly note that there is not any deduction factor in Ascot race (14:00) because the horses that withdraw from the race where reserves"
After contacting Coral I got this reply
"You have placed a bet on the Win only market which is worked out on a feed and dividends rather than prices. There was a NR but it was only 5p so a Rule 4 didn't apply on the day of race and BPG markets but there would have been a deduction on the dividend markets as the prices are reflective of the runners".
I apologise for any inconvenience caused and if I can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to contact either myself or the Customer Service Team.
Not sure why he apologised as I'm still £62 down
Sorry to hear they got you, Shoom. The good news is, you'll make it back before long.
Be very careful though with the Corals Win Only market - - it is a tremendously dangerous arber trap, IMO. Normal Rule 4 deductions do NOT apply to this market. Instead, they have their own deduction rules which in almost all cases will result in massively higher reductions than at Betfair/Betdaq/Smarkets. See their Rules, 30.24.4, 30.24.6 and the worked examples in Appendix 1 (after 55.2).
I never bet on their Win Only, as tempting as it might be at times.
Just seen this, I'm lucky all mine lost!
