I have been using xda for as long as I can remember with god knows how many custom ROMs and programs and have never had any security issues.
If I remember rightly not long ago someone did try something in one of there ROMs and it was pulled to bits within a few hours and user was banned.

Most people that get android want to change everything on there phone/tablet which is the biggest attraction to it IMO so jumping through hoops is the norm
Yes that's fair enough, if you're a user of that community and you trust the content that's posted then it's all fine. Still though seeing a random file that contains executable content shared on an anonymous file sharing site doesn't inspire masses of confidence, but that's the nature of the beast of course.
Wehey, finally got the £50 cashback for the Samsung tablet, half given up on that, cynically they 'forgot' to make the payment at first and had to chase it up.
