Everything changes yet everything stays the same.
I remember when ManUre were relegated. Sir Alex Ferguson - sorry, Sir Matt Busby - had retired, but many of the stars who had been there in the "glory days" a few short years previously - Bobby Charlton, Ryan Giggs, George Best, Nani,..........were still playing, although becoming shadows of their former selves. Perhaps because of the looming presence of Busby/Ferguson, those newly in charge just could not bring themselves to take a clean broom to the side, which continued, in essance, to be not THEIRS but their predecessors'. As the team slipped down the table over the space of a couple of seasons nobody could quite believe that the team that had conquered Euriope so recently could possibly, actually, really BE RELEGATED.
As an ironical twist, their fall from grace roughly coincided with a brief rise in fortunes for the blue half of Manchester.
1974 - the year of United's LAST relegation - was a year of turmoil. The world had recently come off the Gold Standard, and everyone had to get used to the idea of a new (fiat) currency - not physically backed by anything - an adjustment process that helped bring a "winter of discontent" to a nation that had, in recent history,, been the WORLD'S ONLY SUPERPOWER - Great Britain. Nobody at the time could foresee the changes that this NEW KIND OF CURRENCY would bring in the long term.
Of course, the idea that history rhymes shoul;d come as no surprise to those living in China and the other countries in the East, who generally see history as cyclical in nature, as opposed to the "arrow of time" we are inculcated with...........
At this point i wanted to bring in Martin Armstrongs' Economic Confidence Models and his idea of pi cycles -
but it's 3.30a.m, i need some sleep., and it's all just a thought experiment anyway. Hopefully one or two will be mildly interested/

War is when the government tells you who the bad guy is.
Revolution is when you decide that for yourself
