I may be wrong but...I think that the 'credit checks' done by Will Hill and Betfred (Done Brothers) are in fact identity/address checks. They won't show on your credit file to any organisations checking your history or score, so don't worry about them.
My file shows a check from William Hill, there may have been more since I haven't checked since. The reason Will Hill has checked so many times may be related to every time you move house? The more likely reason for being refused is moving house every six months, although sometimes you just get refused and never know why! |

If you have a Capital One credit card (in use or dormant) then you can get a year's free membership of Equifax credit checking and Identity Theft prevention scheme.
You get two free credit reports per year and a monthly 'what’s changed on your record' email. Not got a Cap One? - then get one! You don't even have to use it, but it gives you access to the reports... |

I agree , I'm pretty sure it's purely down to house move rather than them just checking up on everyone all the time.. Pretty surprsied they do that btw..

As Foofi says, It's nothing to worry about, since it's an identity/fraud prevention check rather than a credit check, and only you and the credit check agency can see these ID checks.

They didn't even tell me I'd been refused... I rang up and the customer services guy just said it was awaiting appeal from me and could give me no further info. Very annoying.
Thanks for all your responses everyone! I thought that they could see what I could see - relieved to know that some stuff is actually privateish. |

As already said, these are id checks not credit ones.
Only spreadbetting companies do credit checks and those bookies which you have credit account with (very useful for long term bets). As for refusing card, well... |

What it could be, is that someone else either in your current/previous address had a bad credit history, which has flagged up on your account since you have lived in the same property at some point.
Surely your credit report would point you towards the culprit? |

I started getting my credit report on a 6 monthly basis, but there wasn't a lot there really from one report to the next, so I just do it once a year now. Funnily enough, a letter has just arrived in the post from the credit card company but in my husband's name. He applied at the weekend and it looks like the computer said yes to him in spite of him having moved almost as many times as me! I put it down to earning power

Good advice on here . Munk, sometimes its just the fact that you have a lot of credit cards. Companies usually ask what cards and limits you have. Stoozing.com will give some advice as will MSE.
Good practice to check rating and file yearly and challenge anything wrong straight away. My company was refused a years deal on a mobile phone and at the same time a lease agreement for a 20K machine was approved. I was and still am licenced by the FSA. God only knows why
