Forum "memory" of read threads all askew

    Hi all,

Hope someone can see something daft I'm missing! When you see the forum, threads with unread posts are in bold (in my experience!). I'm seeing LOADS of bold threads, that I've most definitely read.

Also, when you click on a thread to open it via the "last posted by..." link, it normally takes you to the oldest unread post. I keep on being transported like 3 pages from the end of some long threads, despite having read those weeks ago (moneybookers world cup promo thread a case in point!).

Have I bollocksed a tickbox? Or is it cookies? What am I failing at please?

All help will be met with a doffing of my cap (and I now see the name of that smiley, it's a hammer. Ah well, pretend he's doffing his cap! )

Sorry really bad timing for me to help, right now is the first time on the forum in 48hrs which is probably a record for me for the last year or so, generally I read all threads every 12hrs or so (well, check all 'unread' threads anyway).

Will keep an eye on it though, hopefully it was just a glitch. If it's still causing problems in a few days maybe shout again?

Shall do. This has been going on for quite a while now though (sorry for not flagging it sooner, assumed it was my end!)

I have to say then in that case I'm not sure, I haven't noticed a problem myself but I tend to read the forums using the 'daily posts' list rather than click on each forum, looking for the bold faced threads which have new posts and reading them that way.

The way I read the forum:
    • click on where it says 'New Posts' (http://www.thegamblingtimes.com/boar....php?do=getnew)
    • use a little bookmarklet to open all new threads in new tabs
    • click on 'mark all threads as read'
    • go through and read all the new threads in the tabs
rinse repeat x times a day

That works out ok usually, although sometimes there are problems if the session timeout gets changed in the admin settings for some reason (happens *very* rarely though) - that's the only thing I can think of that will be changing the number of posts/threads displayed as unread, although it would be showing you fewer unread threads rather than more unread threads... so really don't know sorry.

Only thing I can suggest is removing all the cookies related to tgt and starting with fresh ones.

Ooh, that seems to have cleared things... cheers Munk

I think I need to read up on what all the buttons on forums are/where I can find them... Been on forums for years and always finding super new features!

Cool, probably the best way is just to click the 'mark read' button, it's at the bottom of each forum list I think.
