    Gambling terms, acronyms and abbreviations

Please use this thread to post any acronyms, abbreviations and other terms that you don't understand. Hopefully someone will answer and they will get added to the forum 'acronym expander' (so when someone mentions one of the acronym.

    Current list:

    Code:
'Advantage Play' => 'Taking part in promotions offered by gambling sites and using them to make a long term profit by just playing when there is extra value. It is possible to take this to the extreme of staying within the T&Cs of each site but laying or hedging the bets in order to never actually lose.'
'AP' => 'Short for Advantage Play. Taking part in promotions offered by gambling sites and using them to make a long term profit by just playing when there is extra value. It is possible to take this to the extreme of staying within the T&Cs of each site but laying or hedging the bets in order to never actually lose.'
'Arbing' => 'Placing bets or trades at exactly the same time at two different places with different prices to guarantee a profit regardless of the results.'
'Bankroll' => 'The total amount of funds someone has to gamble with and has ringfenced for this purpose.'
'Bonus Abuse' => 'Taking part in and claiming promotional offers breaking the T&Cs. The most common way of doing this is by registering several times yourself or on behalf of friends and family. It also includes playing games and strategies which are guaranteed to result in a loss to the website offering the bonus.'
    'che' => 'Casino Hold Em'
'Dutching' => 'Placing two or more back bets on two outcomes rather than backing and laying the same selection.'
'EV' => 'Expected Value is the amount of profit you are expected to make on average from a particular set of wagers. The exact profit you make can not be known in advance, but it is possible to calculate how much you should make in the long run if the game was played an infinite number of times. +EV stands for postivie expectation value.'
'Gnoming' => 'Using the IDs of various friends and family to sign up for new accounts on their behalf and take advantage of promotional bonuses in their names, in return for a % of the winnings.'
'Gubbing' => 'Originally from the Betfair forum it meant a selection that went to 1.01 to lay In running which then went on to lose. It has more recently become the common term for having a Sportsbetting account limited in the size of wager they will accept from you or an account which is no longer eligible to take part in promotions.'
'House Advantage' => 'The amount of money per unit of bet a casino takes on average as a result of the statistical probabilities associated with the game.'

Ok no worries, I'll turn off the acronym expander then it can be a bit annoying, if anyone needs any terms/acronyms explained check out the article Andy mentions ^.

    Cheers.

Might be an idea to keep it open as it will enable the original one to grow if one of the mods updates the page regularly.

For example yesterday I was looking at Greyhounds and for the dogs last 5 races it may say: 1-1-T-T-2

Now I didn't know what the T meant so Fella kindly explained to me:

T in a dogs form stands for Trial - i.e. not a real race, just a trial. Sometimes they are solo trials (no other dogs) & sometimes they run against one or two others. You can also tell it's a trial because unlike a proper race there won't be any odds for that line of form.

In a nutshell, Trial form is "not as good" as real race form, mainly because since Trials are generally only 2 or 3-dog affairs even a poor dog can win several of them in a row!
Now if this thread had existed then I could have posted my question in here rather than PM'ing Fella via a tip in the chatbox from Nin saying Fella used to work at a dogs track so he might know.

Yes will leave the thread open, I meant just turn the acronym expansion feature off because it will get a bit annoying (imagine if we added an expansion for 't'=>'in a dogs form stands for Trial' and every single occurence of 't' got expanded to that!!! ).
