Congrats Nintendo.
I was dire as usual so went off to play a 5 Euro double or nothing 6 man table. I did it after last weeks tourney and doubled up no problem. This time I got a bad beat. Down to the last 4 and the blinds were creeping up, me and a guy were about 1,000 each (I was slightly lower stacked) and I was on big blind, he had position (last to check/call) so he dropped an all-in, I had KJ so called it, he revealed an 83 off suit.
Neither of us paired up until he hit an 8 on the river.

Another fun tourney. I beetled along for most of the first hour taking down the odd pot with a pfp rse here & there. Play was pretty tight all-round. First notable hand for me was when I went all-in with JJ & got two callers both with AK ( ). Luckily my hand held up which saw me through to the final table. Next significant hand I had KK allin vs AT, flop came something like 76435 to leave me gutted. Before you knew it we were at the last 4, Nintendo leading, Eaustin, myself & Musicbox chasing. Eaustin stole my blinds repeatedly with early raises but knowing what he was up to wasn't much use with hands like 53o, 62o, 74o, 83o.... (very frustrating lol). Eventually I managed to get all-in with Ax versus the equivalently stacked Musicbox who had KJ. A flop of KxxKx & that was that.
Well done Nin who I see went on to win it.

The 10th August summer league poker game saw a record number of participants - 24 to be exact. Let's face it, to be anything other than exact with a number like 24 would see me applying for work at the Daily Mail with a pretend story headlined "Dozens of degenerate gamblers to blame for economy's swine 'flu." Anyhow, within minutes of the "poke off" (as Bella insists on calling it), the event's take-up was already being widely attributed to the positive affect of the official reviews. "The only poker I usually play involves removing clothes but for approximately £4 and the chance to star in an official review, I couldn't go wrong" said Cripery as he took off his left sock and acted slightly giddy. "Your turn" he said to Maddog who overcame his obvious bemusement to join in the fun. "From my antics every Sunday after dark at the far end of Tesco's car park where there's some tree coverage" was Maddog's reply as to "why the name?" And it's this taboo-but all-embracing approach which has been the foundation of these poker love-ins each week. Well, we've seen the odd bit of physical assertion in the form of forced Indian head massage between the ladies but still, hardly troubling is it guys?
The game is quite a blur especially since I had been up since 5.30am, was seriously tired from about 8pm and to top it off, had accidentally lost my proper report last night. But in the Bob Dylan-esque words of Destiny's Child;
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm not gonna give up (what),
I'm not gon' stop (what),
I'm gonna work harder (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),
Keep on survivin' (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm not gonna give up (what),
I'm not gon' stop (what),
I'm gonna work harder (what),
I'm a survivor (what),
I'm gonna make it (what),
I will survive (what),
Keep on survivin' (what).
and so I wrote this report again earlier this morning. I told Andy that Maddog ate my original so I won't be able to use that excuse again. If you had been in my house last night either as an invited guest or perhaps, and more likely looking at some of you, a career criminal burglar, then you would have heard repeated shouts of of "f*ck me" right about the time I realised what had happened to my report. My wife really is a potty mouth at the best of times but I'm sure all the guys here can appreciate a woman who's willing to role-play your favourite tourette fantasy. Ladies, if you're reading this report with a guy next to you, he'll be all "this guy is a freak" but rest assured, that's code for "thank God, it's not just me."
The little bits I can recall of the game saw Rudloph exiting first, cruelly being dealt pocket Kings when Bubbles had been dealt pocket Aces. In all other walks of life, when presented with such an unfortunate deal, family and friends would gather with soothing messages, chocolate and sometimes even a sympathy one-night stand - maybe I shouldn't have mentioned family during that sentence. However, the world of poker is much more cold and what did the poor chap receive as way of sympathy? "Ouch!" from four or five people at the table. So, can I insist that there be no more "ouch" for the rest of the summer league - if someone's unfortunate, why not write *sympathy one-night stand*? I know I will. For no reason whatsoever, this all took me back to a particular hand I had during a £5 sit n go back in the days when I played at William Hill although the cards and players were entirely different and I had already had my chat turned off by the moderators for typing in Ndebele, an African click language. SO, no reason to link the scenarios at all but hey ho. Next out was Slim, again with pocket Kings. He flopped his set but lost to the flush. Leveret, Dulence and Tod reformed their three-part barber shop quartet to sing "flush, flush", a play on the rather hearftfelt and wonderful Rush Rush track by vocal coach and former Miss American Idol, Paula Abdul. I scrawled on my hand "Pocket Kings = fold" and it served me well as I continued to progress in the later stages without ever losing with my pocket Kings. *Pro poker tip* I suggest you all do the same. Even though Fudge's finger was clearly not near his computer at all tonight, its absence was just enough to give us kids a treat and we were thrilled to see him finish in 10th place. "You have to wonder how positions 11-24 are feeling right now, losing to the invisible man!" said Butty who was sandwiched between Nintendo's thighs for much of the night after losing a side bet on whether or not Nintendo could name every single resident of Bergen, Tromso AND Oslo.
As for my own game, I remember very little other than Fella calling my bluff (I had 24 and nothing hit on the flop/turn/river). We were checked down at the river and I felt like he had ripped off my clothes (again) and revealed my rather pathetic small hand to the world. Tip for srh1984, when you see a small hand, don't blurt out "AW, hello little man, coochi coo!"
Before you lose the will to live, I'll end it for another week although if I keep typing perhaps I could eliminate a few of you right now and win next week... well done to all who won money, made the final table or simply attended. "It's the taking part that counts" insisted Nintendo as he rolled around in his winnings.
