I am sorry to hear that, it happens to everyone at some point as you say we are human and mistakes happen. Just make sure they only happen once that is the key.
I am not sure about Sportsbook losses but there is a thread on Casino losses here: http://www.thegamblingtimes.com/boar...ever-loss.html
Have a plan and stick to it
Sorry to hear about that.
I reckon we've all been there, but it doesn't feel any better for that. Just remember that you'll soon have it back and more, and that it has to happen at some point, because we're all human, and that you need to factor these losses into the picture; there's no real way to totally avoid them happening in practice. Write it off that way in your mind and move on.
My worst ever was over a year ago iirc, when I was doing one of those 'bore draw' refund on a score of 0-0 on Paddys. Quite simply I backed 3-1 and layed 1-3, to lose £850ish, on a set of bets which would have made me around £2 profit.
I did learn from it, and it's the last time I've done 'easy' things like the bore draws at the same time as the distraction of chasing something much more complex (and more interesting). Also had a bad cold/virus at the time, and now make it a rule not to do even the most basic of stuff when I'm unwell.
I do like the title.
Ive made a few mistakes over the last few months. They usually happen when I am completing a WR. I have got into the bad habit, when in a book with poor odds, of backing a result in play as it stands. Usually if I fancy that score to happen. For example team 2-0 up. I then wait for the odds to come in and lay. I got a nice bit of profit by then hanging on until the odds dropped so much they presented a very nice arb.
However about 3 times now disaster has struck and I have ended up well down. Recently a team came back from 2 down to draw, equalising goal flying in on 96 mins!!!! When the market suspended I presumed it was the full time whistle. Altough deep down I knew what had happened. I ended up losing £150, I think, but not for trading the loss would of been over £400
Another time I did this and through trading managed to limit my losses from around £90 to £10. This does not sound too bad but if one of the teams had scored again I would have been a £1000 down!!!
The above are not technically mistakes more poor judgement, but I thought I would share as a warning/comedy for some.
As for genuine mistakes my most recent one was backing a horse then forgetting to lay it. Unfortunately the horse won. I say unfortuantely because I panicked in play and layed it for over double the odds I backed it at!
I've done the exact same for a loss of £500!

The irony is if I was in the position you were in I would have done the same!!!
I really need to learn my lesson!
I thought I had an arb, felt very proud of myself and even posted it on here until the good lads and lasses here pointed out that I had actually bet on two different markets ! I just panicked and did nothing ! I think I lost about £30.00 which for me is quite a bit
Don't think I posted at the time. Had an arb with totesport / pinnies in October times
PSV vs Debrecen
2.2 PSV at Tote
PSV -0.5 1.91
Deb +0.5 1.91
Pinnies was it's typical -110 self.
Long story short I backed about 2.5k on PSV and 2.9k on PSV -0.5.
The worst bit is I checked about 20 times before kick off cos the odds on PSV shortened dramatically. I'd have been able to lock in a profit at pinnies and had a bigger profit at Tote with the type of mOvements that occurred I think but my eyes played tricks on me and it looked like I had it all right.
Queue shock and a 2 month or so hiatus when the bets settled and I realised what happened.
Pay attention to the markets not the odds! Especially when making big bets!

Was this the game in November 2010? If it was, you are a VERY lucky man...
