Alot of my losses come from Casino's.
Had a decent run a few months back and got a bit cocky and stopped reading T&C's (which I've learnt from since) and just screwed up the free stake money, rediculous betting because i was i impetuous to get the offer over and done with, etc.
After my decent run at casino's i was about £1100 up (thanks to a big payout at thunderstruck) but after my school boy streak i was up maybe £700. I count that as a £400 loss, dont know if you guys would consider it.
In the form of sports betting, first Netherlands match of the euro's i forgot to lay the bet (luckily they beat Italy i think) but that could've meant a £50 or so loss. I've mucked up on some other sports betting, again not reading T&Cs etc.
Anything that can go wrong has probably happened to me... maybe i should get out of this gambling lark
I've lost £150 once. Backed and laid the same team, but in different matches, during the week when Arsenal played Liverpool three times. £140 once when my back (vanished/voided/wasn't confirmed/was abducted by aliens) and, of course, won, and I had to pay out on the lay. Nothing else >£100.
My most costly mistake has probably been the combined effect of taking less than the best sign up offer when I started betting.
Fortunately only £100 on horses - internet went down and I couldn't get sorted in time to lay by phone!
what was the lesson learnt? i cant see how you could have avoided this happening? occupational hazard i reckon.
my biggest loss so far has been £120 from trying to dutch an asian handicap between canbet and VC but when i went to place the 2nd half at VC they had changed the asian to a split market... of course once something goes wrong 99 times out of 100 the result seems to be the one that means a higher loss! typical.
I've got betfair on my mobile, just in case this happens. Costs a bit in data transfer charges but its there in an emergency.

My biggest single loss was about £130 on a Partybets offer where they reneged on the offer and failed to pay out properly. The offer was 'double your winnings - we'll match your stake up to £25 and double your winnings' They initially only paid out the normal winnings. After a few emails they paid out a further £25, claiming that the offer was 'we'll double your winnings up to £25'.
I had screenshots of the offer and could have taken it to the Alderney Gaming commission, but I was doing a lot of referrals there so I decided not to draw too much attention to my account incase they shut it down as a bonus abuser.
I do know of other people who got their winnings back, but I've made a lot more than the £130 by referrals there so I'm pragmatic about letting it go.
Having said that I'd always interpret any offer Partybets/Gamebookers/ITVBets give with caution and take screenshots of the offer.
I also ballsed up a bet 2 weeks ago by backing at both a bookie and Betdaq. That'll teach me to do it in a rush with young children hanging off my arm shouting 'Daddy come and play pirates'
Good luck with the free bets people
I placed a horse bet on a fantastic arb at Freds, only to find the bet was never made somehow, so lost over £100. I think it may have been sitting in the betting slip for too long. I'll never know.
It was makes interesting reading see various people's rocky roads through mathed betting, one thing that seems to be evident is that like in life everyone makes mistakes, and as Andy says, its remembering them, learning from them and moving on, its all too easy to stuck thinking about what could have been etc...
I have made a few loses in my time, several on the horses, some at Ladbrokes in particular on rule 4 deductions, it simply isnt practical for me to monitor every race until the off.
Most recently i lost £300 on Villa losing in the league cup. Foolishy quibbering over a few pennies during the day only to the price drift, game start and not to be in play at exchanges. The game was in play at few asian books but in my infinite wisdom it was a nailed on dead cert. The rest is history as they say.
