Hi. Finally decided that money in the savings a/c earning minus interest was a waste of time, so have decided to 'invest' in matched betting. Haven't got much to share at the moment and will probably start by looking at High St bookies to keep life simple, but hope to enjoy the company of other forum members over the coming days/weeks/months/years?!?

high street bookies might not be a good idea, as their offers are usually greater for big sporting events such as chelternham race festival, ascot, wimbledon, world cup etc...
Bookie Info may be a useful resource, as it shows the best previous bonus for a bookie, from looking at that I can tell you most High Street bookies are currently offering about 10% of their highest signup bonus, so you are much better off waiting. Also as most of the footy is over until August, it is a lot harder to start out. Most people start on Football because they are familiar with it, and their are websites that find good odds matches for you...

Thanks for the advice. Just what I need. I had actually thought of starting with Boylesports when I was researching a few weeks ago, but their £200 offer is now only £20 so I won't rush in to that one. I actually started yesterday with Victor Chandler which has a £100 bonus at the mo.

I've just tried this with a test account and it seems to be OK for me.
Make sure the dimensions of the image and the file size are correct, they have to be under a certain size otherwise it will fail. It should tell you on the avatar page what the limits are (should be 160x250 pixels, max of 64kb).
Cheers.

Thanks. Realised I was trying to add 'profile picture'. Sorted now.

Hi there good people, joined the site today, have been betting for many years, strictly value punts, already have a lot of bookie accounts so not that many of the good Uk & Ireland firms offers are open to me, so recently I've been doing some of the Casino bonuses, which though good little earners are pretty tedious if you're using low stakes to reduce variance. Also, I'm learning Poker at the moment so perhaps when I become more profficient at the game I might try some of the poker bonuses although I have no idea if they're any good for earning cash as I've done no research but that's for the future anyway. Good site, keep up the good work and I'll try and contribute what I can over the coming months.
edit. Oops, think I may have posted this in the wrong thread, not the most auspicious start to my time here!

Hello Eddie, do you use Betfair much and have you considered "trading"? We are starting a new promotion, beginners guide, all learn together, type thing at the moment you might want to look at.
Also our Poker league literally just ended last night, but when the next starts I will remember to PM you about it so you can join in if you want.
Any questions at all ever just ask but hopefully most of the site is quite self explanatory now. All the best.
Have a plan and stick to it

Been using Betfair for about nine years but fairly small stakes really so still on 5% commission, interested in trading but it seems a mysterious art, sometimes I've tried to pick a game and trade it from 24hrs pre kick off to the off but lost my enthusiasm for it when the market went the other way as often as not. And the racing trading which looks the most potentially profitable I just couldn't get a handle on the market behaviour. I may try a bit on the Ashes this summer as I do like Cricket Tests. Have you got a link for the thread for this trading discussion thing?
P.S. One of the golden rules must be to trade out before the off, even when you sitting on a loss, the temptation of course is to let the event begin and hope to recover if the race, match whatever goes your way. But if it doesn't you will be sick as a dog, all imho of course.

Hi Eddie - there should be a thread up about it by this time tomorrow, keep an eye on this forum:
BetTrader Trading Challenge July 2009 - The Gambling Times
No worries anyway... good to have you onboard!

Yes I was watching a video just the other day that had this guy showing you what happens when you don't trade out before the off... balls of steel
