Thats probably a little overkill its not likely your internet will just die and the vast majority of sites have phone numbers to call and you can always get the bets on that way, except if things were a problem you needed to correct somehow you would just not place the bet at BookmakerA then, no harm done. You would only really need Betfairs number in the event you have bet at BookmakerA and THEN the internet goes so there is no lay, in which case ring betfair and get the chap on the phone to place the lay for you, so just save Betfairs number in your mobile: 0844 871 0000
I may have misread what you mean though and we are coming at it from different angles. I cant think of a practical example of when or why you would desperately need to get hold of and bet anywhere other than betfair. It might be annoying that you are held back time wise or maybe you miss a good bet/arb but does it justify a whole new internet connection?
If you were going to anyway from personal experiance i would just say that Iphones are awsome for just browsing the internet, and a huge amount of fun generally once you are used to them. For logging in and placing bets at places they are terrible, DONT get an Iphone if thats the reason you are getting it.
Have a plan and stick to it

Edit: beat me to it
wunderbar: if your just starting out I think its abit OTT to get a dongle for matched betting. Most people start off with footy using oddsmatchers, and unless you are live betting during the game you should have plenty of time (sometimes days) before the event to match at a friend/neighbours/internet cafe/macdonalds wifi or get your internet back up and running.
Personally I would recommend getting some bookies apps on your phone, and writing down telephone numbers to ring through bets.
Getting another fixed line means two line rentals and a big installation fee, nevermind the single point of faliure that is BT.

As above, OTT really, the best thing you can do is make sure you have a rock solid/reliable internet connection / ISP (check out dslzone.co.uk) and you should be fine. I think in a year of doing this pretty much full time I've only had a problem once but even then I didn't lose any money over it, I can't even remember the details exactly now to be honest.
Then again though if you think you'll use the 3G dongle quite a bit when you're out and about then fair enough, go for it... I heard they're not bad.

Betfair's phone number.

Hi Andy,
Betfair have a list of numbers (just like a lot of big companies) for you to ring, depending where you live. If the nearest number starts 084 or 087 (usually very expensive using mobiles) then look to see if there is an international number. In this case it's +44 208 834 8060. Knocking off the +44 and adding a zero gives you 0208 834 8060 - far cheaper and could even be free if you have any free minutes on your mobile or landline.
If there isn't an international number then use SAYNOTO0870.COM - Non-Geographical Alternative Telephone Numbers to see there are any cheaper alternatives.
Cheers,
Chris
