Theres no point arguing over Id , keep your own house in order , do your own research , if you haven't got the right Id the bookie requires then thats your problem not everyone elses , it amazes me that people come on here writing post after post giving out about Id requirements when one email before depositing to the bookmaker could of saved all this. Its your money nobody elses look after it .

What horsekeeper posted makes sense in my opinion, obviously should be up to the individual country to decide what they want to accept as acceptable ID for non-residents and on that basis the most obvious generic / worldwide available form of ID would be a passport.
And I think Eoin is also bang on the money, like I said above personally I think there's a good argument for bookies requiring ID BEFORE you deposit, then you'd have none of the nonsense this thread was about in the first place.

Just because you are paranoid, doesn't mean the rest of us are.

My reading of his statement was that the vast majority of bookmakers in the world DO accept the UK driving licence as proof of name/address (at least the photocard version, which is of a standard in terms of ID verification equal to if not better than any national ID card system I would suggest). I don't even think he tried to say xyz country MUST accept the driving licence? Maybe I misread it or skim read it too quickly though...

OK, perhaps I overreacted a little bit, so I apologize. Indeed, it is just right to state that online sportsbooks all around the world widely accept strictly national UK identification documents... not because they are supposed (or forced) to, but because, as a matter of fact, they do (i.e. they want to).

While I do agree OP is flaming for no reason, I have to agree some bookies seem to know you're genuine right from the start, and will ask you for additional IDs etc just as a delay tactics, or to give your grief (if you're tagged as an AP).
Just got this from IASbet even though I don't think I ever made any deposit there or placed bets (let alone ask for a withdrawal).

Im not sure why you were sent that specificly but IAS is an Aussie bookmaker and by law they have to get ID from you to a quite high level of proof within 3 months of opening the account (it might be 6 months) or they HAVE to close it. It is not just them being picky in Australia thats the law.
Have a plan and stick to it
