MB are hardly known for guarding your info with their lives. They will tell a dodgy 2 bit casino anything about your account without questioning it, why do you not think they would flog your email??
The chances that enough people will complain to the ICO for them to investigate it are minimal and even if they were found guilty of selling email addresses, the fines involved for that kind of contravention are a joke (Gala Coral got a £10 fine or something equally ridiculous for doing it last year). So in that respect you are probably correct, there is not a huge disincentive for companies to flog email addresses on to 3rd parties without the owner's consent.

That aside though, the bigger incentive for Moneybookers should* be that people will not want to use them if they find out that their email addresses are being sold on to 3rd parties behind their back - especially since the email address is part of the primary login authentication scheme at Moneybookers.

One other consideration looking at it from the view point of what they stand to lose by selling on email addresses - if your account was defrauded and you knew within reasonable doubt that your unique mb address had been sold on, and you had told them about your concerns prior to being defrauded, then it may stand you in good stead in a court of law regards redress if it ever came down to that (and you were in a situation that otherwise would see you not stand to be paid out under MB's fraud guarantee scheme).

    * I say 'should' but of course that doesn't mean they would care too much about it though: a. it would take some serious press coverage to damage people's opinion of them and b. they probably wouldn't be affected anyway to any great extent because there aren't a lot of viable alternatives to Moneybookers, it is a monopolistic market (paypal and neteller are the only two that come to mind and neither are big players in the uk igaming industry compared to mb - and arguably both of those get away with much shadier practices if you scratched the surface).

How much do you think an Email goes for? Out of interest, what ballpark figure are you thinking they charge? Ten for 1p? 1p each? 10p each? £1 each? I would not pay anything myself but have been offered a few in my time, the last was a pretty Spammy mass Email on 31st Jan this year, to an address I dont really use and also we dont have a tipping service, but anyway:

Glen Carter - Sport Gambler Data

    email - glencarterracingdata@gmail.com or glencarter@supanet.com
    contact - 07885 467735

Horse Racing - Football - Greyhound Racing
    Lists

    Hi,

I hope your tipping service is going well, I know its difficult times with the large numbers of services operating at the moment. A lot contact me and say how hard it is to get a steady flow of new clients. Hopefully this is not the case for you !

It’s been quite a few months since my last message and in that time I’ve built up some really good lists. I’m confident that they are as good as you will get in the current market.

    The lists include –

    Horse Racing

12 very good lists including email, name and some mobile numbers.

    10 very good postal lists

    11 very good mobile lists

    Greyhound Racing

Genuine punter lists – name, email address and some mobile numbers

    Football

Genuine punter lists – name, email address and some mobile numbers

    3 lists available totalling 4,500

On top of my new data I also have a very good selection of older lists, these are cheaper to buy and will still produce new clients to your service !

With multiple thousands of emails, postals and mobile data.

Many of my clients have been with me for 8-10 years so the data is proven to do the business. Why would they return otherwise ?

If you would like further info and prices please contact me and I will sort you out a good list for your service at a very competitive price.

    Best Regards

    Glen Carter

Why dont you get in touch and ask him about prices? You could see if you are on there? and/or ask him where he got the list from? I did not reply, I have never replied to any of them other than saying I have forwarded the proposal to the Data Protection Agency a few times and I hope they have legitimate access to the data. There are lots of ways and places and "leaks" to get your data, it is a grubby little trade.

I expect that Moneybookers make more in a month from your transactions alone than they would get for selling every regisered Email address for a year. They just would not do it, there is no meaningfull benefit to them for doing so.

The spam I had was 100% to do with MB.

Set up new email and added to my MB account. Didn't bother using it in the end. Sent no emails from it and sent no money from it either. Logged into it recently after reading this thread. Receiving the same spam as my other MB email along with gfs etc

Was there a MB rep on here at one point?

Set up new email for Betfairx - Got similar spam as previuosly posted .
My registration to Betfairx never tracked so linked another new email to my MB which i intended to use to try open another Betfairx (never got
around to it ,Sorry Munk !!) Just checked this never used email and it has same spam .

Spam doesn't bother me personaly and I wouldn't really mind if MB did sell my address .

MB have no respect for your data at all.

They even told a casino my previous address once.

Got spam mail through to my Titanbet address today, first time I've had any to that address. Spam was for queenpromo.com.

Annoyingly you can't change your email address at Titanbet (can you?) so I can't block any spam based on that to: address. I'm sure CS would probably do it by email but meh... w/e.

Usually I just change the address at the bookie and then block any mail to the old address but I can't see any way of changing your email address at Titanbet (or password/any other details for that matter) so it will have to stay as it is (unless anyone knows otherwise, cba contacting CS about it tbh).

To change details at Titanbet you need to download Titan Casino and log in to change it that way.

Received spam to Betfred address today for first time out of the blue, can't even tell who the casino is, there is no name in the text part of the email (and the images are all turned off cos it's spam so no idea if it's in there but I don't want to find out if it means my address is ticked off on the spammers site as 'active'). Sender domain is lunchneed.com, yet another domain to block...
