IP Address
Evening all,
Apologies for not posting on here in a while and just waltzing back in and asking a question - been away travelling
One for the more technical people - am at uni now where the IP addresses are all unique but are in a "dynamic pool", so basically I can't get a unique IP address solely for me for the next 3 years as it chops and changes when my computer is turned off/holidays etc.
Before I spend £7+/mth on a dongle/tethering bolt on, is there a way to get a "fake IP" address, or to alter it in some way so that it is unique solely to me? I don't have a clue so thought I'd post and see if anybody got round the uni problem without forking out for mobile broadband.
Thanks in advance
Jake

Hi Jake - welcome back mate!
In my experience with mobile broadband, everytime you log on to your account you will have a different IP address, so if you are looking for a static IP address then a dongle probably isn't the way to go about it.
Can't really help you on whether it is possible to "fake" an IP address, hopefully someone more knowledgable member will be along soon!
cheers

The problem at the minute is that every time I turn my computer on, I get an IP address from a pool - this means that the IP address I get tomorrow could have been used by an APer today, and if that's the case then we both get banned from everything.
Didn't realise you got a different IP address with mobile broadband too... Is this a problem (is there a finite amount of addresses that get used by everyone?)
Thanks

I can see the potential for mobile being a problem too, but what about those that bet at footballs matches etc - does it just mean they won't be able to take advantage of offers (refund and sign up)

As I said via PM the best option really is to either pay for a VPN (which may be blocked anyway by more suspicious bookmakers!) or you could set one up yourself if you know your way around computers and have a broadband connection at home + PC that can be left on 24/7 (doesn't need to use much power at all really if you have it without a monitor on etc). There might even be more user friendly solutions to doing it as well (as in a small box similar to network attached storage device or router that can act as a VPN server).
Unfortunately I've never tried that though so can't really help with specifics but I'm sure it could be done relatively easily.

Dont see what the problem is, most people are using dynamic ip addresses anyway. All virgin ips are dynamic, and I have never had an issue with a Sportsbook
Beating Bookies since March 2006

You wont have any trouble at all with a dynamic IP, unless you are using more than one account. All those complaints you see from people who innocently got assigned the same IP as someone else, are in fact not innocent at all

Cheers - will just go for it then. Think I thought it was more complicated than it is. Thanks
