watch the movie about stu unger also. He was probably the best poker player of his time for sure. He played todays style about 15 years ago. He was heavy into drugs though that ruined him. You can ask anyone that played against him that he was the best or top 3 at least. I forget the name of the movie off hand, but decent.

Haven't seen the movie but have read both these books about 'The Kid' and would recommend them highly. If you're not poker-mad then maybe just one of them would do as there will be a lot of repetition across both:
"One of a Kind: The Rise and Fall of Stuey 'The Kid' Ungar, the World's Greatest Poker Player"
"The Man Behind the Shades: The Rise and Fall of Stuey 'The Kid' Ungar, Poker's Greatest Player"

21 unfortunately is nothing like bringing down the house, which is a shame. why take a fantastic story and ... make it less fantastic?

Casino by Scorsese is a cracking film - not poker related, but gambling and the gaming industry in general. Can't go wrong with Di Niro and Pesci.

two for the money is decent for a sportsbetting movie also. Talks more about sports handicapping, but also shows how if you dont manage your bankroll correctly, you cant profit in the long run.

When i was around 17 i had to write a computer program as part of my Computing O Level (none of this GCSE malarky!) - the one i wrote was a poker game, called Big Deal. It was on my 48K Spectrum, had user definable graphics for the playing cards, and played the theme tune to the TV Show when you first started it up!
Cant believe nobody's mentioned The Sting in this thread - gotta be one of the best gambling films ever!
