i take it your using the £1.50 portfolio builder dire?
Well kindoff yes. I am dripping in ~250pcm into funds, but I don't believe they charge for buying into them on the set days. Once I have enough to trade, I pull it out, trade and start again. I think the funds I use ATM have averaged a 2-3% increase each month sofar. If/when I make some decent profits then on trading, I slide a portion of the profits into a safer form of investment, and trade again.
I am also tempted to set tracker losses of say 20% less than my highest valuation of my investment, as so I don't need to monitor my stocks valuations as often.
Investing in shares is a great interest and hobby to me. Have been doing it for more years than I would like to admit to and I am keen to get my young children interested as soon as they can grasp a handle on the value of money and compounding.
I am not a market trader, never will be. I don't use leverage.
I am more of a value investor (can't resist buying a £1 for £0.60). But I do mix this with some growth shares and a small amount for speculative plays.
This leads me to ask has anyone tried Merger Arbitrage?
This seems like the most appropriate place to ask. I have been dabbling for a few years with mixed success, but average gains on the ones I have been involved with have been very respectable.
Also would be interested to see if there are any other value investors or people who like to buy shares in the US market.
BPTY (AKA Partybets and Bwin) They are the only 100% "clean" company RE US wagers and will be first to go back in/make the most from any legalisation (which will happen one day, the US have crazy abolition laws sometimes, they banned alcohol for a bit, but it always comes back). They are also massive in Europe and German threats to outlaw/overtax it wont work due to EU competition laws.
GVC (BetBoo /CasinoClub / SportingBet Turkey) is a massive cash cow, dividend yield around 20%, growing, it is so lowly rated as all its sites are in "grey" legality so could close at anytime, but its been like that for 5 years now and in that time they have paid out on dividends more than the company is now valued at. SportingBet deal has also been massive but not priced in at all.
Not gambling related but just a comment, sell short Rockhopper and any other Falklands Islands Oil exploration share. There may be oil down there but absolutely F all infrastructure to get it out. You would need to build another Aberdeen down there and supply/support all the people needed which will not be cheap and is actually nigh on impossible with Argentina and Brazil refusing to co-operate.
