Bailey’s Bullet Points

Our Football Insider Graeme Bailey looks back on the weekend’s footballing action and brings you his ‘Bullet points’….

  • SPURS REACTION NEEDED
The wheels have dropped off Tottenham’s title charge and they need to react now, otherwise their chances of winning the league – which were already distant, will be gone completely.
  • SARRI GETTING BEST OF HAZARD
If Chelsea are going to challenge this season then it can only happen if Eden Hazard plays well and that is just what he is doing under Maurizio Sarri. The Belgian looks like the world class player he is and if his form continues then a title challenge is on the way.
  • VAN DIJK VINTAGE
Liverpool’s front-three get the plaudits and rightfully so, but Virgil van Dijk is proving to be one of the best signing in the club’s recent history. The Dutchman is emerging as one of the world’s best.
  • WOLVES STARTING TO SHOW THEIR TEETH
Back to back wins for the Championship winners – fancied to do well before the start of the season and Nuno’s boys are now starting to show just how good they are…top-six challenge? Don’t rule it out.
  • TOWN TROUBLE, BUT NO PANIC
Huddersfield Town are in massive trouble now, the home defeat to Crystal Palace has to be a worry but they will keep faith with David Wagner and that is the right thing to do for sure, they shouldn’t panic.
  • GOAL OF THE WEEKEND
Brilliance from Wilfried Zaha, absolute class from the Ivory Coast international to curl home at Huddersfield and it ended up being the winner, to give his side a massive three points.
  • PLAYERS OF THE WEEKEND
A lot of candidates but my players of the weekend would be….
GOALKEEPER – DAVID DE GEA – The Manchester United number one continues to show just how good he is and again produced some brilliant saves at Watford to help secure the win.
DEFENDER – VIRGIL VAN DIJK – Is there a better central defender in the world at the moment? Probably not – rarely troubled at Wembley as he guided The Reds to a thoroughly deserved victory.
MIDFIELDER – RYAN FRASER – The Scottish midfielder has been outstanding this season and he was brilliant against Leicester with two goals and an assist.
FORWARD – EDEN HAZARD – Brilliant hat-trick from the Belgian superstar who was unplayable against Cardiff.
