Leading bookmaker Coral is predicting record betting turnover on this weekend’s Breeders’ Cup thanks to the earliest ever start and finish to the meeting for a UK audience.

The punter-friendly race times are complemented by the largest ever number of European runners at the Breeders’ Cup, a factor which will also drive more betting on the event over the two days.

“The combination of the most punter-friendly Breeders’ Cup race-times in the event’s history and the biggest ever European raiding party, is a potent cocktail that will see record levels of betting on the meeting in the UK”, said Simon Clare, Coral Spokesman.

“On Saturday the Breeders’ Cup meeting starts at 4pm UK time, just as afternoon Jump racing is drawing to a close, and the meeting is then accompanied by a Newcastle card for most of the evening. Every Breeders’ Cup race bar the Classic will be broadcast live in betting shops, and the whole meeting is timed perfectly for the watch-from-home audience, finishing for the first time ever before 10pm.

“Last year at Del Mar the first Breeders’ Cup race on Saturday was run at 7pm UK time, with the Turf going off at 11.37pm and the Breeders Cup Classic taking place into Sunday morning at 12.35am. That was a big turnoff for UK punters.

“On Breeders’ Cup Friday the meeting sits alongside two evening meetings at Kempton and Dundalk, and all the Breeders’ Cup races bar the Juvenile will be broadcast live in betting shops.”

Enable is currently the standout European contender for the meeting and likely to attract most turnover, although Wild Illusion has been well supported in recent days and is also likely to be very popular on the day.

“The likes of Enable and Wild Illusion look certain to be well supported by British punters seeking to back European success at the Breeders Cup, but there is also likely to be plenty of backing for the three European Classic contenders – Mendelssohn, Roaring Lion and Thunder Snow – as well as Polydream and Expert Eye in the Mile, and Anthony Van Dyck and Line of Duty in the Juvenile Turf”, said Clare.

Coral currently makes four European winners at the Breeders Cup the 2/1 favourite outcome.

With Aidan O’Brien expected to have 13 runners at the meeting, Coral rate him as 6/4 to have one winner and 5/2 to have two winners.
