Tottenham Hotspur closed the gap on leaders Chelsea back to ten points after a 2-1 win over Southampton at White Hart Lane.

Despite being without leading scorer Harry Kane, Spurs were in control at the break thanks to Christian Eriksen and a penalty from Dele Alli.

James Ward-Prowse pulled one back early in the second-half, but they could not find an equaliser as Spurs held on for their tenth successive league win at White Hart Lane – extending their club record.

Spurs are back to within ten points of leaders Chelsea, but are two clear of Manchester City in third as they played out a 1-1 draw with Liverpool at The Etihad.

James Milner put the visitors ahead just after the break when Gael Clichy was penalised for a foul on Roberto Firmino.

City got back to level on terms 20-minutes from time when Sergio Aguero latched onto Kevin De Buryne’s pass to claim the equaliser.

Earlier in the day Manchester United climbed above Arsenal and into fifth after a 3-1 win over relegation entrenched Middlesbrough at The Riverside.

Marouane Fellaini headed home in the first-half to give United the lead, before Jesse Lingard strike from the edge of the box made it 2-0 on the hour.

Under caretaker boss Steve Agnew, Boro actually switched away from their defensive tactics and went two up-front and it worked with substitute Rudy Gestede converting from close-range.

With Boro pressing looking for an equaliser, Victor Valdes slipped in the box allowing Antonio Valencia to tap in and seal the win which was their 600th in the Premier League.

After the day’s results – Tottenham’s odds on a top-four finish have shortened to 1/10. City are 2/11 from 1/8, whilst Liverpool drifted to 4/9 from 4/11 with Man United 11/10.
