WC Round-up: Kane denies Scotland famous win; NI claim big win

England captain Harry Kane scored an injury time equaliser to deny Scotland a famous Hampden win as their their World Cup Group F qualifying clash ended 2-2.

England had looked on course for victory when with 20-minutes left, substitute Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain put the visitors ahead – but then with five-minutes left, the game erupted.

The equaliser came with four-minutes left as Griffiths stepped up to curl the ball over the wall and to the left of Joe Hart – who could not reach it. Amazingly his first goal for Scotland, but he did not have to wait long for his second.

Less than three-minutes later – Hampden was sent into raptures – as Griffiths did it again, this time putting it to the other side of Hart after again beating the wall from 25-yards.

England looked on their way to their first qualifying defeat of any type since 2009 and Scotland were looking at a first win over their ‘Auld Enemny’ since 1985.

But Gordon Strachan’s side were denied thanks to a customary brilliant finish from Kane. Rahem Sterling curled the ball into the Scottish box, and the home defenders were left ball watching as the Tottenham star side-footed a volley past Gordon.

The Three Lions remain clear at the top of the group, whilst the point keeps Scotland in touch with Slovakia and Slovenia in second and third.

In Group C – Northern Ireland maintained their brilliant run and it was again a dramatic affair as they claimed a last-minute winner in Azerbaijan.

The winner came from Leeds’ wide-man Stuart Dallas – who claimed his first goal for his country in injury time.
