This is the BetTrader Challenge Q&A thread. If you have any queries about the challenge, please ask away here and I'll try and keep this first post up to date with all the FAQ for the challenge.
Cheers!
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR BETTRADER
A few people have been caught out when using BetTrader for the first time after NOT changing the default stake from £50.
PLEASE make sure the first thing you do after you install BetTrader is to change the default stake from £50. You can do this by going into 'File > Settings' and then clicking on the Stake tab. I personally use 0.5, 2, 5, 10, 20, 50 for my stake buttons and make £2 as the default.
Challenge Registration FAQ
Can I take part in the challenge?
If you are a registered member of the forum you can take part in this challenge. You must confirm your registration before being eligible to win the prize funds. For full details see the instructions in the challenge thread.
Will I receive a fiver via the TGT Fivers cashback scheme for registering a new Betfair account for this challenge?
No. However there are a huge assortment of prizes worth over £400 and additionally every entrant will receive one month free subscription to BetTrader.
Am I allowed to register more than one Betfair account?
Yes it is fine to register more than one Betfair account per person. The following email was received from Betfair customer services in reply to the question put to them of whether multiple accounts per person was allowed by Andy:

There are many many reasons why you might want to do this (separating liability, casino/poker/sportsbook account separation, ringfencing funds for a specific reason).
In this particular instance it is beneficial to have a new account for the challenge because it allows entrants to ringfence the funds for the challenge so it is easy to see who made how much profit and work out who is a winner. If everyone used their regular accounts it would be a nightmare working out who had made how much profit from trading vs 'regular' Betfair activity. Additionally, providing the one month free BetTrader subscription which has been kindly offered by RacingTraders would also be difficult in the event that existing BetTrader users used their existing Betfair accounts for the duration of the challenge.
If you have any concerns about the legitimacy of registering for a new Betfair account please contact Betfair Customer Services:

Why do I need to sign up via the affiliate link and enter a RAF code?
Registering via the affiliate link allows us to check who has registered for this competition. The link is specific to this challenge and should track who has registered specifically for the challenge and who is eligible for the prizes.
However Betfair's affiliate system is poor and often affiliate link clicks do not track - therefore entering the RAF code gives a 'second chance' to track users.
Do I get a RAF bonus for using the RAF code?
If you are an existing Betfair user you may not receive a referral bonus if you use the RAF code - please be aware of this.
BetTrader FAQ
I have downloaded the BetTrader software now, I assume I just wait until July1st to be able to "use" it?
You can download, install and use the BetTrader software at any time, however the one month free subscription will not officially kick in until 1st July 2009.
I'm new to BetTrader, where can I get help with it?
If you are new to BetTrader there are a few sources of help. The first one is the excellent Tutorial / Demo videos on the BetTrader site - see this thread for more information:
http://www.thegamblingtimes.com/boar...al-videos.html
If you are still not sure about something and can't find a tutorial video that covers your problem, feel free to ask for help here:

Will I get hit by Betfair Data Request charges if I use BetTrader?
When you use any Betfair product you are allowed to use up to 20 refreshes per second before you are charged for excessive data usage. BetTrader calculates how many requests it sends/receives from Betfair and by default it SHOULD keep the refreshes to under 20 so you don't get charged.
However if you have the refresh settings set to a very high level, you may go over the 20 refreshes/second and be charged by Betfair - note however that the first time this happens Betfair 'let you off' with a warning. Still it's best to be aware of this.
Leaving the defaults as they are for refreshes should be fine for most people, although if you're on an exceptionally fast connection like 50Mbps or higher you may still need to modify the settings. The best thing to do is to keep an eye on the 'max refreshes per second' box in BetTrader - located in the top right hand corner underneath your name and balance. If you see this figure turn red this means you have used over 20 rps during your current session and you should urgently check the settings and adjust the refresh rate so it's lower.
Additionally be careful NOT to run more than one BetTrader at a time - all refreshes across all accounts linked to you are added together, so for example even if you ran one BetTrader with your trading account and another BetTrader with your 'regular' Betfair account, the data usage for both of those sessions will be added together and will more than likely send you well over the 20rps threshold.
Why can I only get three ladders up in a multiple runner market, it willl only give me the top three in the betting even when I press the arrow at the top it just rotates those three?
To see a different selection from the 'top 3' in the ladder interface, click on the selection you want to view in the 'ladder' tab (in the left hand pane/on the left hand side of BetTrader) and that will bring your selection into the 'middle' ladder in BetTrader.

I have downloaded the BetTrader software now, I assume I just wait until July1st to be able to "use" it?
I did get the "Honey of the month" feature to work now though, so I am happy about that.
Have a plan and stick to it

I have concerns about entering a promotional code into my second betfair account. I know having multiple accounts with them is okay but how will they look at claiming a promotion for the second one?

This is a good point actually - the first time you use BetTrader with your newly registered Betfair account you will see a prompt asking you to accept the Betfair API T&C. Tick this box and you will then be prompted to enter an affiliate code - you can leave this empty / don't tick the affiliate code box.
I believe you should be able to use the BetTrader software fine once you've accepted the API T&C, although the one month free ladder subscription will not kick in for sure until July 1st 2009.

Bear with us on this we're looking into it now.
UPDATE: The challenge registration has been put on hold temporarily whilst we iron out this issue with Betfair. Anyone who has already registered has been informed of the situation already. Hold tight and the registration details will be back asap.

For the trading challenge post,
MarcWiseman, you do not have permission to access this page. This could be due to one of several reasons:
Your user account may not have sufficient privileges to access this page. Are you trying to edit someone else's post, access administrative features or some other privileged system?
If you are trying to post, the administrator may have disabled your account, or it may be awaiting activation.

Munk has switched it off temporarily whilst he gets confirmation of the promotion code in Betfair. Just a small wrinkle to sort out.
If its of any help to save some time it is worth pulling together some verification documents ready for setting up the new Betfair account - take a look at the verification procedure and requirements on your current Betfair account. I realised too that I needed a fresh Card not used already with Betfair to get through this so I hope no one has used all of theirs. Also if you use Moneybookers, adding a tgtTrading...username.. email address will need to be added and verified - but quite quick and painless.
Have a stick and plan to use it - A LOT!!!
