Ongoing "Trader of the week" results - Week 1 (week ending 05/07/09)

Current highest profit and loss for a single market in the week ending 05/07/09:
    1. Procrastinator: £40 (05/07)
    2. wndllll: £18 (03/07)
    3. wndllll: £15 (01/07/09)
    4. Andy: £10.37 (01/07/09)
    5. AmeliesDad: £7 (05/07)

    Official Week 1 Results
Congratulations to Procrastinator who won this week with his £40 trade on the Wimbledon final. See here for his prize winning entry:

    http://www.thegamblingtimes.com/boar...77-post14.html

Consolation goes to shyle of pyte who did have a very large £50+ windfall profit off the back of a mistake which went his way:

    http://www.thegamblingtimes.com/boar...30-post25.html

Since shyle of pyte's trade was technically the biggest profit of the week, he will share the prize with Procrastinator - though in future week's I will be more strict about this since introducing the rule about entries having to be 'in the spirit of the challenge' (so big windfall's that come off the back of mistakes will not count in future).

So - the prize will be split between Procrastinator and shyle of pyte. Procrastinator wins £10 in cash and gets a much vaunted TGT punting mug and pyle of shyte wins the one month free subscription to BetTrader as consolation prize. Congratulations to both.

I will contact both of you by email right now with details of your prizes.

Ongoing "Trader of the week" results - Week 1

My best result so far on one market is just over £10, even though today I had a £13 each way on the Murray match, by the time it was settled I made just £6.5 or so, damn Murray for folding like that I would have had loads of equity to trade with in that fith set. Hmm, oh well.

So +£10 is my best so far. Anyone beat it?

My strategy has basically been to trade swings in the service games, lots of little trades on the favourite when serving, they can have a first serve go out and drift from 1.2 out to 1.21 and has the chances of them winning the whole match changed by 5% because of that! No is the short answer.

Of course it backfires when they are in fact broken, then you have the decision do you lock in the loss or wait for them to pull it back anyway. That is more the skill part, juging when to do that. I am doing OK from it, lots of small greens ticking up now. Overall I STILL overtrade, must learn to stop BEFORE the end of the match, I ALWAYS throw away £s at the end building up a huge Green on the underdog which is pretty and exciting having it there but pointless if it just loses.
Have a plan and stick to it

Hehe yeah I know that one! On the federer semi final I had got to +4 Fed and about +60 Haas but couldn't bring myself to leave it and ended up sticking nearly £3 on Haas at 500 when he was 2 match points down. If only he'd saved them.... Obviously he didn't and I ended up with only £1.50.

Overall profit of £11.58 since 1 July, not including an unexpected fiver from betfair. My best single market result was exactly £4 profit trading the u/o2.5 goals market on Obscure Utd v Unknown Athletic.

No problems so far with overtrading so far because I have been generally aiming for only one or two trades per match using higher stakes. I know this is a riskier than repeated small-stake trades, but I .... have no excuses, it's a flaw in my personality, and it will probably all end in tears!

So far so good though, nothing spectacular, and no losses.

I been doing MB and arbing for several months. Was a bit reluctant to trade as I thought it will end in a loss. Thats' why I was keen to find out how people were doing. I am going to give it a go hopefully can learn something on how markets work especially on horses.

The only 'advice' I would give is to not be tempted to go in with big stakes to start with, just play with small \£2 stakes for a while until you feel more comfortable... that's all I've been doing on the horses to be honest just while I get a feel for it.

I've added you to the list now anyway so if you want to register with betfair via the instructions in the main challenge thread you can get started. The confirmation of your registration takes 1-2 days usually and when I've done that you'll see instructions displayed in a notice on the forum telling you what you should do next at each step of the process.

    Cheers.

I couldnt beat my early total of £10ish, so thats my best result this week. So as I understand it Procastinator has won Week1 then? At the moment? But everyone has a few days to put in their best totals and "might" beat him? It would be interesting to see who got what anyway even if it isnt a high total, just to see what the averages are?
