    World Snooker Championships 2010

Lots of opportunities for trading, both individual games and the outright winner, particularly as the matches are longer.

My brief bit of research shows that backing favourites in individual matches, certainly in the first round, can be profitable. My approach will be to back the favourite at about 10% above SP and then look to exit or go crazy and let it run.

As I write this I am SEETHING that I missed the start of play and Allen (fav) is 1.01 already after starting 1.5 ish. Higgins is currently losing, he started 1.5ish, drifted to 1.7ish (would have backed him then) and is now 1.39 so I guess he's mounting a comeback. Anyway I'll queue up a back bet of £50 @ 1.54.
Update: Higgins backed @ 1.54, greened at 1.1 ish £19.73 profit

    Other bets today:

Hendry (current price 1.28) Back £50 @ 1.4 Bet matched, greened at 1.1£14.25 profit
    Perry (current price 1.7) Back £30 @ 1.87 Bet matched, greened at 1.1 / 1.05 £20.90 profit
Selby (current price 1.31) Back £50 @ 1.44 Bet matched, greened at 1.1 £14.69 profit

    And we shall see....................

    Day 2

Fu £50 queueing at 1.63 Bet matched, failed to green/red up as wasat work. Fu lost. £50 loss
Carter £50 queueing at 1.87 Update: bet not matched, game over No loss/profit.

    Day 3

    O'Sullivan £50 Q @ 1.35 Bet not matched & I've cancelled it.
    Williams £50 Q @ 1.25 Bet matched, greened at 1.05 £9.50 profit
King £50 Q @ 1.63 Bet matched. King trailed 6-8, redded out for £28.50 loss

The loss on the Fu game was disappointing but inevitable as leaving a trade open whilst at work is not a great idea. I'm now going to limit my exposure when I know I'm going to be at work and a game is due to finish. Also going to green/red up when the underdog reaches 8 frames and is leading.

    Day 4

Day £50 Q @ 1.49 Bet matched, he's losing, will need to keep an eye on this one. Lay queued at 1.1 anyway and fingers crossed. Finished their game while I was at work, didn't realise they were playing., that's how well I kept an eye on that. £50 loss
    Ding £50 Q @ 1.21 Bet unmatched and cancelled
    Robertson £50 Q @ 1.28 Bet unmatched and cancelled.
Ebdon £50 Q @ 1.87 Bet matched and he's getting his arse kicked. £50 loss

So... After a promising start, not looking to clever recently. The favourites are either running away with it or getting beat. Going to need to adjust my stakes now i think. Considering backing favs less than 1.4 for more and at 5% above SP and lowering back stake on favs above 1.4. Any feedback/advice gratefully received.

    Day 5

Change of plan. Tried a few little trades on Maguire during the opening salvos of his match. Still backed 5% above SP but traded out much quicker and then went in again when the price rose a little.

    Maguire (£75 stakes) B 1.34, L 1.2, B 1.28, L 1.19. £16.39 profit
    Murphy (£100 stakes, method as above) B 1.25, L 1.15. £9.50 profit

    Current profit/loss = £73.54 loss Fucking careless.

Good reading, thanks for keeping it updated.

Unlucky on the Fu loss, didn't personally expect that result. Bar that and your doing fairly well. The trade out on the King match was understandable, despite him getting back to 9-9 as I type.

The only 2 matches I have bet on were the Hendry and Ding games. I mix of backing and laying has netted me just shy of £40 profit which is ok considering.

Good luck for the rest of the tournament. and keep us updated.

    Had a tipple using your method for today;

Backed Murphy at 1.33 for £50
Traded out at 1.08 for a £11ish profit

    Round two match:

Backed Allen at 1.32 for £50
Traded out at 1.05 for £13ish profit

Havent tried snooker myself as yet, seems like there are some nice swings without being "too" volatile....

what are the major match moments to look out for in snooker?
