Combined Effort to crack the trading nut

Been dabbling in (very) low level trading over the last month or so, and although I havent made a mint, i have learned some lessons along the way, probably not groundbreaking stuff but still I'll share it.

Oz and US horse racing isn't great for a newbie trader, only a late glut of action isn't helpful for someone learning the ropes with the geeks toy,

Never go in play, can take a while to recoup losses with small stakes.

When laying the draw with a view to back after a goal, 0-0 insurance is worth it, and has let me trade out with a small profit, just before half time with no goal scored more than once. (although after bottling it, a goal is invariably scored)

As I said, I have been trying things out more than lookin to make a packet and have decided to concentrate on footy, with the dawn of the new season.

I have noticed a weakness in myself that after selecting a few games where the method works I get a bit lapse and I try to apply it to any old game, and invariably make a loss.

Maybe this thread could provide some discussion to collaborating to identifying standout games which are more than likely goind to be a strong trading opportunity.

for example people could suggest games and give a brief rationalle as to why they believe that will be a good chance to trade and hopefully we 'wannabe' traders will get on it and make a couple of quid.

Through my limited research I have found that games boasting strong favourites (around 1.5) seems to be a good starting points to trade in this way, so will be looking for some decent trades in the Premiership with the big six, especially when at home. This also gives more clout to bunging a £2 insurance on 0 - 0 as that will usually have a higher price in these games (although obviously takes a chunk of any profit made, especially at small stakes)

of course the downside to these trades are if the under dogs score, which will reduce the price of a draw, however this allows some outs with the favourites having chance to bag two, or the underdogs holding on.

So lets have some suggestions for the games you might have a pop at trading this weekend.

    I'm looking at

    Reading at home to Scunny

    and

Sheff Wed at home to the Daggers

Great idea mate, one thing i would say first though is be careful at the start of the season.I wouldnt really want to start certain trading strategies until at least september.Laying the draw can certainly pay, i know of a few people that do it full time but the big thing to get this right is game selection.
I have an idea of something which i want to get my head round first but i will post when i ahve.Good luck mate and hopefully this thread will take off it should do there are some knowledgeable people on hear that have made a few quid so perhaps between us we can come up with something.

I had moderate success for a few seasons trading under/over a number of goals

I would lay overs before the game with a view to trade out for a handsome profit a short while into the game after no goals were scored.

i found this particularly rewarding in the big important games (man utd vs chelsea, chelsea vs liverpool etc) as they would get hyped up for weeks before the game to the point that everyone was expecting a 5-5 thriller when in reality the first half an hour or so was so tense that there was more action in my nans pants!! this would allow me to trade out and enjoy the match when (if) it actually did get going and turn into a game worth watching

only drawback is that if you want to get in and out quickly and still make any reasonable amount of profit you have to go in quite large and this means have balls the size of watermelons cos if someone scores in the first 5 minutes, trust me, your belly will be doing summersaults when you see those odds change - squeaky bum time i think is the professional term for it

i knocked it on the head when i realised that if i ever made enough money to do something good i probably wouldnt live lond enough to enjoy it with all the heart attacks!

Some good points, especially in terms of games being unpredictable in the early season.

You could be on to something, I have lost count of the number of 'SuperSunday' top notch games that have bored me to tears,

maybe this could contribute to a 'double pronged' approach to trading. Especially laying 2.5, still gives you some outs on an early goal.

So, ignoring that early season form can be unpredictable who would you plump for this week?
