Unlucky there A's Dad! Why don't we consider the 22/1 shots

Only 215 valid tickets after this first race. Nobody won the Scoop6. Better luck next week.

But don't ignore those 22/1 shots

Perhaps I'll have a couple of long shots this week. Actually, looking at some of these races, and how tight they look to be, even compared to normal I think I'll aim for steady, reliable types that are likely to place rather than go for the big win.

Leg 1 Doncaster 1.50 (placed but only because he was a non runner! Grandage fell)
And right away I'm torn. Grandage looks to be reliable enough but unlikely to win it, whereas Harry the Hawk looks more likely to win, but is a bigger unknown. Which way shall I go?

Leg 2 Newbury 2.35 (lost unseated rider)
This would be Go For One apart from the rise in weights which might be just too much. But I couldn't decide between the rest so I read the names to my wife who picked Go For One. So there we go.

Leg 3 Kempton 2.50 (lost pulled up, as did reserve!)
Nothing jumps out in this one so I'm going to go with The Hardy Boy because he won when I picked him in a tipping contest elsewhere, and his name was closest the the random name my wife gave before we even looked who was running. Alfadora for reserve (I do like a fedora and he's getting backed heavily this morning)

Leg 4 Newbury 3.10 (lost fell)
Hold em. This is one of those races where I can go for reliability. I expect he'll go close. If I were picking a second I'd go with The Package.

Leg 5 Doncaster 3.25 (lost nearly last, but good because that stopped anyone winning today)
Here I am going to go for the place horse. Alderburn seems to have made a habit of coming third, but it seems the stable have hit a little bit of form which might push him closer

Leg 6 Newbury 3.45 (placed at last - a good run too)
Mutual Friend looks like he'll be beaten to the line but he might just do it, and I'm looking for places today anyway so he gets my vote. Wingman would be reserve choice.

    EDIT: added results
Well there's another day to forget. It looks like nobody managed to even get close to predicting those today. On to next week then.
It looks like you did as well cooky

I said I'd do better since I didn't spend long looking. No point getting the places and winners after losing the first though. More of the same then

    Leg 1, Uttoxeter - 2.05pm
Just Smudge back to winning ways today no doubt

    Leg 2, Wetherby - 2.20pm
Pheidias He beat Youngstown on Boxing Day, but Youngstown may have improved more. We shall see

    Leg 3, Uttoxeter - 2.35pm
Sangfroid My least fancied pick for today. No idea in this one

    Leg 4, Uttoxeter - 3.10pm*
Badgerlaw Second last time and looks like may have been targeted to win it.

    Leg 5, Lingfield - 3.30pm
Dubai Storming I do like a good hat-trick

    Leg 6, Uttoxeter - 3.40pm
Fiendish Flame He'll get his hat-trick over shorter trip even giving the rest weight
