I'd be up for this, but personally don't think it would work on a day to day basis. I think picking a race everyday would be very time consuming for the person organising it to track and theres no guarantee that everybody here will log in and participate everyday.
I think if we are looking for a competition to replace the football then we should make it a Saturday comp. I think AmeliesDad's suggestion of using the scoop6 races is a good one.
Something along the lines of-
1. Everybody picks one horse in each of the six races.
2. One of those horses is highlighted as your NAP (bet of the day)
3. If your selected horse wins you are awarded 5pts
4. If your selected horse is placed you are awarded 3pts
5. If your NAP wins you are awarded an extra 5 bonus pts. (No bonus points for your NAP placing, it must win).
At the end of the days racing, points are added up and prize awarded to 1st and 2nd place and a wooden spoon type prize to last place. Or a table could be created with monthly prizes if people prefer.
Andy, if you think this could be done on a weekly basis with a new thread started for each Saturday then I don't mind helping to organise this as I am around most Saturdays. If I wasn't for whatever reason then this would be fairly easy for someone else to take over for the day following the template of previous weeks.
I would propose that the thread is started as soon as we are aware of the scoop6 races with everybody posting their selections by 1pm on the Saturday. It would be easier if the thread purely contained peoples selections with a separate thread for us to chat about our selections and monitor progress throughout the day.
Thanks for chipping in everyone, I thought I was flogging a dead horse there until Andy saved the day. If we go for ajdj's idea I just hope no-one gets all 6 right without having covered their bet for real
I also wonder if that scoring system will cause too many dead heats? Hard to say without giving it a shot. We can always tweak to use the SPs or something if that happens.
Whatever is decided, if its only one set of races a week then I certainly don't mind dealing/helping with the organising and scoring.

I did wonder about dead heats, but I think its a pretty tall order to pick 6 that will place, let alone win. Having had a go at placepots and the scoop6 before and rarely got anywhere close (although that may just be my bad picks!). The other option would be to give say, 5pts for a win, 3 for 2nd, 2 for 3rd and 1 for 4th. But didn't want to over complicate the job of totting up points for the organiser and some races have different number of places depending on the size of the field.
As for the organising, it was your good idea AD so I think you should get first option of being at the helm, but I am happy to help with anything that might require some additional support! Maybe a trial run would be a good idea to see if it works and then bring in the sponsorship of prizes??
