    Horse Racing Tipping

We were discussing horse racing tipping in the chat the other day. I thought it might be an idea to get some sort of little comp going over the summer since the football will come to an end soon. The only problem being the time overhead of running it (and sponsorship if we went that route).

Most days I do a competition on another forum. They pick a race meeting every day and you pick a horse in each race. Whoever gets the most winners (plus bonus points depending on the SP*) in the day chalks up a point. Whoever gets the most points over a month gets a £40 free bet from Stan James. And whoever picks the highest priced nap** during the month gets a £10 bet.

They run another where everyone picks up to one horse per day, win or each way and they get settled at SP*. This runs much like the Beat Victor comp only over the course of a month.

Both of these approaches seems a bit too time consuming to tally up every day and I have the utmost respect for the guys who run them. However, I was wondering if we could come up with something less laborious. Perhaps one meet a week, or just use the scoop6 race selections (see my lapsed scoop6 thread to see how bad I am at that).

    *SP = starting price
**nap = Best tip of the day. I've no idea where the word comes from but its used all over. "nb" is also used to mean second best tip (next best?)!

I could DEFINITELY get a bookmaker to sponsor this as of the end of this month. Im not sure the best way to do it though and as you say it is very time consuming.

What we could do for the first week is have an offer where when you join/and or place your bets at the specified bookmaker then if you quote "TheGamblingTimes" then that week between the Monday1st and Friday 5th, if you have a bet that WINS (and the bet must win) then you get a matched stake bet (up to £50 freebet) on TheDerby to be placed on the Sat 6th morning?

It doesnt matter if you lose, you just keep going that week placing as many bets as you like until you win, a bit like Bet365s 4/1 offer. That sort of thing. If you early on have a winning £25 bet you could still keep trying and have £50 bets which might win, it would be matched to your highest stake winner?

That would be very possible and mean that as well as putting the "tips" on here it is worth your while doing it for real too because you get the bonus freebet if you are right? If it goes OK we could do something like that every week/month as long as there is enough interest in it to make it worth while.

Thanks for posting this AD, had hoped you would. I did mention it in passing in an email to Andy but fear it may have been overlooked since the email was actually about another promotional idea. Great idea for when football season ends, thanks again.

OK forget what i said before we can run that seperately, THIS idea is very good though, what is the other forum? PM me if you want, we can definitely get that sponsored to that level.

The Drawback is definitely going to be the record keeping as you say.

I only didn't post the forum name as I didn't want to advertise other forums here. There are a few out there. I'll PM the one I use to you.

Yes, what I was talking about was a reasonably regular little comp with a prize once a month. Its the daily part of it that would bother me. Both the overhead of running it (I would volunteer but then wouldn't be able to guarantee to keep on top of it) and the overhead of even entering it. You can't really expect people to pick, never mind study the form, of 6 or 7 races per day every day like they do on a horse racing specific site; it would dwindle and die.

Perhaps one race per day. Whatever looks the biggest race on that day? You can place an imaginary 2pt win or 1 pt e/w bet and see who has the most points at month end?

It would have to be as simple as possible as although people on TGT do bet on the horses its not something they tend to look into apart from them having good odds vs the lay price

OK who thinks they would be up for posting some Horse racing stuff now the Soccer Season is over?

I know for a fact i could get a couple of bookmakers to sponsor any kind of tipster league we had. If anyone would like to run it/promote it/organise it let me know as I dont think i have to time or skills to do it all properly myself but if you did or know anyone else who might have the time inclination to, i can definitely arange and help with the contacts for the sponsorship and split any revenue the venture eventually makes (if it does!).

If anyone is interested in betting on Horses, just tips/value bets, not matched betting then register an interest here by posting "hello", "whats up Doc", "TallyHo" or some derivative of that.
