The Open Golf
Just 11 days to the best golf tournament in the world. My three against the field:
Brian Gay 200.0
200.0 about a player who's already won twice on the PGA tour this season. Yes please.
Retief Goosen 55.0
Proven winner of majors & also a PGA tour winner this season. Always capable of winning & too big at 55.0.
Geoff Ogilvy 46.0
Another 2-time winner on this year's PGA tour (form is hugely important in golf). A major winner in waiting IMO.
All odds currently available on BF (I've just helped myself).

I've gone for
Hunter Mahan - 70
Sean O'Hair - 90
Steve Stricker - 80
See what £15 becomes...

This is gonna be the first Open i've missed since 1994 but at least i'll be at home for heavy betting on it. Will post my picks later in the week. Mahan is my new favourite player tho so there will def be money on him! Infact i'll prob be backing most of my US Open picks for starters!

Mahan is in from 70 to 48 now. Did you get on him before the drop? Of those mentioned so far, there are now better prices on Gay (230), Ogilvy (55) and Stricker (85).

Do you guys bet these E/W?
If so, how does it work if there are a few people tied for positions?
I know nothing about golf so it will be interesting to see how you do!

I'm not very knowledgable but just thought I'd play with a portion of my profits from a WH £5 SNR which came in @ 12/1 (Ross Fisher to finish top GB/IRE player in the US Open).
These bets have been on the winner market @ BF which is the only market currently open. Where ties do occur though (say on place markets), I believe it's resolved using BF's dead heat rules.

I'm on Brian Gay and Soren Hansen.
I'm in France that week though so unless we have Internet in the villa I won't be able to trade out like I would like when they are going well. Still its a tidy profit when one of them wins it

In those circs I would at the very least leave an in-running lay or two at v short odds.
F'rinstance, if you had a fiver on Gay @ 230 you stand to win £1K+ so I'd leave maybe £100 laid @ 2.0, £200 @ 1.5, £500 @ 1.20 etc.
In my mug punting days (long b4 bf) I once bet Parnevik at long odds pre-tourney. Going down the back 9 he was 1.1 to win but he blew up & let Justin Leonard win it. Would have dearly loved to have a few short odds plays going on there

I'm on Ogilvy and Goosen, and as an outside bet Azuma Yano 1000 -1. I did well on Yano trading out at the end of round 2 for a tidy profit at the last major.
Good luck to all (except Tiger, of course)

I've often thought that a running theme in golf majors is that there always seems to be a Japanese player either leading or almost leading at the end of day one (& they never win). Originally it used to often be Isao Aoki & then Tommy Nakajima.
