Thought it might be interesting to have an Ashes thread.
Current BF odds (to back) for the 1st test are
On paper, the sides look pretty evenly matched to me. England certainly have the better spinner, although I am not sure that is going to be as relevant at Cardiff as the press appear to be claiming. I have even heard rumours of England playing both Swann & Panesar, which in my view would be absolutely the wrong call, expecially given Panesar's poor form in domestic cricket this year.
The pace attacks look similar, although if reports of an injury to Brett Lee are to be believed then he could miss the match. Whilst Lee has not had a lot of cricket recently, I still think he'd be a big weapon for Australia in the seaming English conditions, so his loss would be a blow. Similarly, if Flintoff breaks down (I would be both delighted & amazed if he gets through 5 tests without injury), England's chances will suffer.
Personally, the value I can see in this particular market is in laying the draw. Both teams will want to set a precedent for the series, and I would not be surprised to see both aggressive batting, and field placements. To win the 1st test is huge, and I can't see Ponting or Strauss settling for a draw unless they absolutely have to.
