Can accumulators really been profitable longterm or just for mugs??
There is the age old addage that accas are for mugs and the bookies best friend, which to an extent is true. The bookies invented accas to give you a bigger chance of losing as every single selection you add increases your chances of LOSING!!. But with high odds for small stakes can you really make it pay longterm??
Here will shall find out!!
going to place all my "mug acca" bets here and keep a running total. This will run from today until the end of the european leagues next season. All accas are for £10 stakes. It will be interesting to see if it really can be profitable longterm or just throwing good money after bad. To compare Singles vs accas i will also keep a record of any profit/loss made from backing the selections in singles. For example if i have a 4 team acca for £10 doing singles for the same stake would be 4 x £2.50 singles. If i had a 5 team acca for £10 it would be 5 x £2.00 singles
Todays "mug bet".......
Rosenborg to beat FK Qarabag (1.33)
NAC Breda to beat Gandzasar Kapan (1.36)
Rapid Vienna to beat Vllaznia (1.67)
Helsingborg to beat FC Zestafoni (1.33)
Motherwell to beat Flamurtari (1.36)
5 team acca pays 5.14 with skybet (in brackets is best price for backing singles)

IMO if the odds on each selection represent value (exactly how that is determined is another topic) then there's no logical reason that an Acca is a mug bet.
The reality is probably that the vast majority of mug bets are not on value selections (people betting on books that are 120%, 130%....) therefore an acca is viewed as even more of a waste of money because it contains multiple poor value selections. I.e. usually loses & doesn't return nearly enough to make the losers worthwhile on the occasions that it wins.
Personally I have nothing against the occasional double although it's extremely rare for me to ever bet trebles or higher. (mainly because it's almost unheard of for me to fancy 3+ selections simultaneously AND for the best odds to all be with the same bookie).
Of the multiple-selection combi bets the patent is the only one I've ever cared much for (3 selections, 3 singles, 3 doubles, 1 treble), mainly because if you pick three 6/1 or better chances you "only" need one winner to get your money back. Two & you're a decent winner & three is a very nice win. But like I say, this is a bet I do very rarely, almost never.

I dont think accumulators are a good bet unless as said each individual bet is in itself value. It just multiplies the bookies over round and makes it harder to get overall value.
Also think of it like this, if you had a 10 team accumulator to win £100,000 and they played 9 of the matches on Sat and one on Sunday. The Sunday match was at odds of Evens. Every match on Sat wins. You now just have a bet on Sunday to win £100,000 at odds of Evens. You have in effect, by writing out that ticket and putting £1 on it actually bet £50,000 on the Sunday morning on that team winning. In reality thats what you did. Would you if you had the £50k in cash on your bed have woke up that morning and wandered to the bookie and put it all on that team that afternoon? Probably not! So why stick it into that accumulator?
Goodluck though Todd it will be interesting to see how you do.
Have a plan and stick to it

If your example ever happened like 9 winners on sat and im waiting on sunday bet for 100k. i would of course lay that team on the exchanges to guarentee a very nice win
acca down already as rosenborg lost 1-0.....dont even know why i did rosenborg as they drew 0-0 at home so no reason why they would win away at the donkey price of 1.33
do the results once all 5 teams have played

Nice thread, will be interesting reading, are there not some books that offer bonuses for acca's?
bet365 - Online Betting, Soccer, 100% Euro Soccer Bonus
Don't know if there are any more, but knew I had seen one somewhere! Might be a way of extracting a bit more value out of them.

Yes so would I, but do you see the point, if your going to lay it why did you bet it in the first place then? Its either value you should let ride or it isnt.
Anyway, goodluck with it all. I think quite a few sites do bonuses on accumulators, Goldwin are another, but there are lots out there.

Of course I see your point mate. In your example it is just like putting 50k on an even shot....I would never put 50k on an even money shot but i would quite happilly put £10 on 10-12 teams trying to win 100k for a tiny outlay. 100k is a life changing sum of money and £10 is nothing
I would much rather spend £10 on an acca than do the lottery
Im just looking over todays and tomorrows fixtures..."mug acca" to follow
