TGT Beat The Bookie.......
Right everyone i have came up with a little something to bring us together. The tipping comp is one for all and all for one battling eachother to come out on top.....
This is different, here we come together and try and find a winning bet to "beat the bookie"
This probably wont be everyones cup of tea as here we are dealing with doubles and those doubles are on over/under markets.
There will be one double placed every weekend from the premiership from the start until the end of the season (if we dont go broke) This weekend to get things underway we will use the opening set of fixtures in the championship, but after that will be the premiership!
The idea how this works is Everyone (who wants to take part) gives there selection for every game in the league that weekend, over 2.5 goals or under 2.5 goals. You have to NAP one of your selecions and NB one of your selections.
Once everyone has gave their picks i will add up the totals, NAP's get 3pts and NB's get 2pts all other selections 1pt. the 5 with the highest number of votes will go to a vote (every friday) once the vote is up you have to pick 2 selections from the 5 and whichever 2 have the most votes come sat afternoon will be our double to "beat the bookie"
There is a bank of £50 for this and will be placing £10 doubles, if we have 5 losing bets so be it challenge over. I will be looking to move up stakes in increments of £15, £20, £25 and this will be done when we have 10 units. So we start of with £10 doubles and if we get our bank up to £150 we start with £15 doubles
Any profit at the end of the season will be split equally amongst everyone who took part, or we could use it as added prize money in a poker tourny (not sure if everyone plays poker)
Its just abit of fun and if we lose the £50 so be it it is hardly going to bankrupt me.
This weekends fixtures are below, please put your picks for each game and remember to put NAP and NB in 2 of your selections....
Cardiff vs Scunthorpe: Unders
C Palace vs Plymouth: Unders
Derby vs Peterbro: Overs
Leicester vs Swansea: Overs
Preston vs B City: Unders
QPR vs Blackpool: Unders
Reading vs N Forest: Unders NB
Sheff Wed vs Barnsley: Unders
Watford vs Doncaster: Unders
West Brom vs Newcastle: Overs NAP
Coventry vs Ipswich: Overs
NAP: 8 out of the last 10 beween these 2 sides has ended over 2.5 goals. This fixure was of course played in the premiership last season and it was 2-1 to newcastle after just 9 mins (finished 2-3)
NB: Not a history of goals here with the last 5 metings ending under 1.5 goals never mind 2.5. 8 of the last 9 have been under 2.5 goals, with a massive 7 of those 8 under 1.5 goals. Think these 2 sides will cancel eachother out on the opening day and fancy a 0-0 draw. unders looks a decent shout
Get your picks in by thursday night if you can and that leaves all day friday and saturday morning for the vote

This sounds like fun! Great idea and very decent of you to put your own money on the line. I'll be taking part and I'll be following along with a £5 starting bank I'll put £1 doubles on each week and see what happens. I'm too stingy to go for the full £50, but I figure £5 is well worth the fun
Cardiff vs Scunthorpe: Overs
C Palace vs Plymouth: Unders
Derby vs Peterbro: Overs
Leicester vs Swansea: Unders
Preston vs B City: Unders
QPR vs Blackpool: Unders
Reading vs N Forest: Unders NB
Sheff Wed vs Barnsley: Unders NAP
Watford vs Doncaster: Unders
West Brom vs Newcastle: Overs
Coventry vs Ipswich: Overs
I have to say, I went with mostly unders this week and mostly played the same as you Todd.

Great idea tod. I would also be interested in doing this but perhaps not with such a large float, similar to slim above really, perhaps a little bit more I don't know.
One idea in the past was to use Jaxx points to fund an initial bet and then roll that up with any winnings if it won and carry on. Though I don't know that would work so well with this idea because of the higher odds involved with a double etc, there'd be just one 'shot' which might end up losing anyway.
I will try and find some of the old challenge threads that we've had in the past if you want to have a look for ideas.

There's a few anyway of the more memorable challenges, very good fun
I will have a look at the options you've got anyway and submit asap.

Sorry for my ignorance but what does NB stand for? As in 'note briefly', so almost a nap but not quite?
-
NB means "next best" as in your best bet after your nap.
Be good if people could get their picks before end of thursday so we have all day friday to vote

I just had a look at the prices Betfair thinks will prevail with 3-4 days to go and all of the favourites are under 2.5 goals. So on that basis most of my selections would be u2.5 unless I went into the stats and tried to find out what the form of the teams is (hard anyway pre season).
I asked somewhere else (on tod's other tipping challenge thread) but didn't get any answer - where are the best places to research form? I just used ESPN to look at the first result here, sorry I don't have a massive amount of time to do the same for all of them:
Cardiff vs Scunthorpe: Overs NAP (scunthorpe promoted last year, cardiff did well in their league last year too, both have high averages for home/away respectively)
C Palace vs Plymouth: Unders
Derby vs Peterbro: Overs NB (similar to above nap, both teams have high averages from previous season)
Leicester vs Swansea: Overs
Preston vs B City: Overs
QPR vs Blackpool: Unders
Reading vs N Forest: Overs
Sheff Wed vs Barnsley: Unders
Watford vs Doncaster: Overs
West Brom vs Newcastle: Overs
Coventry vs Ipswich: unders
Ok, well the main thing is that took a long time to do... plus I was only taking the goal averages of each team home/away from last season. Should probably adjust some of those from Over to under above I think given it's the start of the season and teams might be a bit slow to start... oh well.

cheerz mate your input is appreciated! always tough at the start of the season.
best place for stats is Live scores, results, fixtures, tables, statistics and news - Soccerway gives you head to head of 600 football leagues in the world. there isnt anything you cant find here.
Click on "domestic leagues" then pick which country you want, then which league from that country.
The site is so good it even gives you all the stats in the 2 quatemala leagues along with all the top leagues it has leagues like yemen, kenya, kuwait etc etc it even has stats for over 20 leagues in brazil alone.
also ladbrokes and bet365 stats pages are very good (especially ladbrokes) you can get over/under and halftime stats here quickly
hope this helps

Cheers for the tip re soccerway Tod, will use it next time! I just reread my post as well, I actually ended up going through all the fixtures as it happens (I said I only did the first one)... I think I might have got it wrong somehow...
What I was doing was looking at how each team had done in the previous season in terms of their home and away goal averages, and from that I roughly calculated the probable goal average for each match in the list based on those averages. Surprisingly most of the results were over 2.5 with only a few exceptions - which flies in the face of what Betfair is predicting with all the 'favourites' being under2.5.
In hindsight maybe this is because it's the start of the season and so most teams won't be firing on all cylinders, so the old averages from last season will be far too optimistic. Oh well will be interesting to see how the predictions turn out anyway, look forward to picking the selection from the poll on Friday
Cheers.
